It’s hard to think of a modern day action film that spawned quite as much love and critical acclaim as the first John Wick did. Released in 2014, the film became an instant cult classic amongst moviegoers and film buffs everywhere; solidifying Keanu Reeves’ recent comeback on the big screen and introducing the public to a world of assassins and hitmen, the likes of which they had never seen before. Based on the first film’s success then, it didn’t come as much of a shock when work on a sequel was announced, with Reeves reprising his role as the world’s most effective assassin, in this year’s John Wick: Chapter Two.
Following the events of the first film, Chapter Two features the return of Wick and his replacement dog sidekick as he embarks on an international journey that will have him crossing paths with both familiar and new faces. Set to delve even further into the high-class underworld of murder and style that made the first John Wick movie so memorable and unique, anticipation surrounding the John Wick sequel has become increasingly more palpable with every passing day.
With just a few more weeks to go until the film hits theaters, a brand new clip from Chapter Two has now been released online. Building upon the seeds planted by its predecessor, the clip features Reeves’ Wick meeting with a tailor and getting some “tactical” suits made for himself, Italian-style, as he prepares for a night of mayhem on the town. Check it out for yourself above.
In addition to Reeves and a number of other returning John Wick cast members, Chapter Two boasts an impressive lineup of new cast members; including, Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King, Ruby Rose as Ares, Common, Peter Stormare, and more. The talent of that ensemble alone should be evidence enough of the kind of credibility this franchise has quickly garnered for itself. Despite not having his John Wick co-director David Leitch by his side, it doesn’t look like director Chad Stahelski pulled any punches with the highly-anticipated Chapter Two.
In a year that includes the theatrical releases of major tentpole films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi, all the new Marvel and DC films, The Fate of the Furious and more, John Wick: Chapter Two stands out from the rest because of its established style and tone. The first film was praised for its originality when it was released, both in its world-building techniques and the unique gun-fu fighting style it seemed to simultaneously create and perfect. Not many other sequels this year have quite the same level of expectations to live up to, but Chapter Two seems primed and ready to throw everything it has at audiences.
