John Cho Is NOT The Mandarin In Iron Man 2

Published 6 years ago by , Updated August 18th, 2013 at 5:47 pm,

Let’s just nip this stupid little rumor in the bud before it starts to get ANY traction, shall we? One well known movie site posted up a story (admittedly calling it a “whacky rumor”) stating that John Cho (Sulu in the new Star Trek movie) will be playing the villain in Iron Man 2.

This is utterly and completely FALSE.

They listed Entertainment Weekly as the source of the news, but apparently whoever wrote up the piece at the movie site which shall remain nameless didn’t take the time to thoroughly read the article at EW, which is obviously poking fun at the whole “actor X is rumored to be playing character Y in [insert superhero blockbuster movie title here].” The same article (jokingly) says that Tommy Chong will play the Mandarin’s father. icon cool John Cho Is NOT The Mandarin In Iron Man 2

Don’t believe me? Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“Does that sound real enough to start a casting rumor? Feels like it to me. After all, was there any more than that to go on when people started talking about Tim Robbins in Iron Man 2, Eddie Murphy as the Riddler in Batman 3, or Rachel Weisz as Catwoman in the same?”

So PLEASE, people, don’t start emailing us with this rumor or posting it on your own sites. It’s B.S. through and through.

  1. Correct me if I am wrong, and I probaly am, but I thought in the film the terrorost dude (his name escapes me at the mment) had something to do with the ten rings and was going to be devloped into the charactor of Mandrin?
Anyone care to shed some light, because that was my understanding.

  2. The concept of the Mandarin character in the Iron Man movie(s) is that he would be behind the scenes manipulating things much like the Emperor in Star Wars 4-6. The idea early on was for Mandarin to be the full-on villain in the third film.

  3. That’s what I thought also, Metallicat.

    That rumor is dumb.

I thought Gumbi was going to play Wolverine? Mr. Bean was going to play Superman? Keanu Reeves was going to play Klaatu…..oh, wait 8-)

  4. hey, Mr. Bean would play a great superman

  5. i don’t thnk john cho would be that bad i like him alot

  6. Come on! I can’t believe anyone would believe a story like that. Especially not on a site like JoBlo!

Cho is too young in the face to play the Mandarin. Mandarin looks a bit older than he is. And with RDJ looking about 30ish as Stark, Mandarin should look about 40.

I can’t believe this. I guess the thinking is, “Hey, he’s Asian. Mandarin is Asian. This would be perfect”

    Thats terrible

  7. Wasn’t he that kid on American Idol that was disqualified because he was tarded?

Maybe I’m way off here? :-)

  8. @790
    Your BAD! LOL:D

  9. Lol, Adrian, but seriously Cho looks too young to play a villain,,, :-)

  10. :) 790, I totally agree and that was a good one,man.

  11. Ken Watanabe = The Mandarin
