He’d better change the name. “Fangland” is a really bad pun on “Gangland” and is about the dumbest name for a film out there.

I’m really interested in finding out more about the They Live remake–is Carpenter directing? It’s got a 2011 release date, anybody know about any more info?

Vampires? Yeah, I was expecting this to draw some groans. But remember, this is the guy who brought us “Halloween,” “The Fog,” and… what was that movie he did with James Woods called? Needless to say, we won’t be seeing another “Twilight.”

I know. I got it. It’s not like it even tried to be subtle.
But regeardless how important the message is, I still think that the movie is flawed and the acting sub-par.

Anyways, no use in arguing since what makes a movie good or bad is rather subjective.

btw: Ventura was well cast as Blain in “Predator”. Same way as Sonny Landham was fit his role.
But Andre the Giant? Could have been replaced by Richard Kiel and nobody would have noticed.

“They Live, We Sleep” was about how society is being controlled “subliminaly” through the tv, and media (news papers, ads) by a hidden elite, aliens in this case. It was a story of resistance from the main characters point of view, as society had become blind slaves to consumerism.

Carpenter said he cast Roddy Piper because he had that average (unknown) guy look that he wanted for the role. (IMO) he was perfect, just like Jesse Ventura was perfect for Predators and Andre the Giant was perfect for Princess Bride,,,

why does hollywood feel the need to ruin Carpenters movies, we all know that they are classic, jus leave them be, get original ideas all you no talent rebooting screenwriters

And what is the social message in using wrestlers as actors?
Don’t get me wrong, I get the message about media control, corporate greed etc… but that doesnt make it a _good_ movie.
The premise for the movie is ok, but not well executed IMHO.

Still, it’s a entertaining movie. And I rather have a sub-par Carpenter-movie than yet another generic explodorama actionflick.

I met a writer about a year ago that was writing a treatment for the new “They live.” I suggested that he use 3-D glasses this time instead of just sun glasses.
This could be the result from a manufacturing mistake or resistance augment???

Of course I screwed myself in the long run as I’m sure the film will also be in 3-D.

Sorry,I forgot that They Live came out after BTILC.

According to IMDB,looks like They Live and Escape From NY are both do to be remade.All I can say is that if They Live doesn’t have an epic alley way brawl like in the original,then it’s an epic fail imo.

I guess looking at his resume,only half of the movies that he’s done,I actually like.

As far as this films concerned, as much as I love Carpenter, this plotline seems like a complete waste of my time. I hope Swank enjoys working with Carpenter, but don’t expect an Oscar coming from Fangland.

Let’s be fair caped, there will probably be a big difference in “Twilight” which is about as “vampire-light” as you can get and what Carpenter will likely do with “Fangland.” At least, I hope so. The vampire genre has some gems in there, but it’s been cursed with a lot of bad efforts, too.

Are you dissing Carpenter?
While he hasn’t made anything good in quite a while, Carpenter is one of my favourite directors because he seldom makes boring movies.
Even the ones like “They Live”, bad as it is, is still highly entertaining.
