Is it too late to get Favereau to do TFA Captain America? Oh man this Johnston guy is making me nervous. :/
  • black thunder
its funny how so many ppl for get that there were a lot of naysayers about Favereau directing Iron Man give Johnston a chance
  • scapegoat1
It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction?! I hope they don´t screw up...

As for the Lead Role for Cap...
I've given this a lot of thought, Actor ages, experiences, 'looks the part', (esp 'can pull it off') I've come up with a single choice:

Mark Valley (Christopher Chance) in FOX's 'Human Target'

He can handle the lead roll, stunts, humor, action and above all I think that 'making us believe he IS Captain America' is his strongest suit.
Please let me know what you think! I've got his Shield to work on...

    All the Best,

Ya this is my most anticpated comic movie for sure it can truly be epic and awsome and real bad at the same time real easy if they start throwing political stuff in there. back when this charactor was created peoples perception of America was very different. Back when people had pride in there country now we have to many treehuggers so i can see this movie getting alot of bad press.
  • Aknot
You mean I cant like nature and all things related and still love and support my country with a big stick?

Whats more political then a war? Politics failed...war was inevitable.

Also Cap has changed a little/lot since he was created even in the comics.

Could you explain how it would recieve bad press?
  • Vin
is this movie considered a reboot because of the 1990 cap movie
  • Rob_Keyes
Lol, they're pretending that never happened.
  • scapegoat1
Even I pretend that 90´s movie never happened. They should sell it in a two-pack with the 90´s Fantastic Four and call the box-set "Marvel Comedy"...
  • Oh, oh, straying from the source is what got us a 5'8" Frank Castle stalking the sunny streets of Miami! I am also rather disheartened to see that they will concentrate on the origin story as those usually make for a boring first movie - the origin should be worked in as a flashback, or at the very least it should be no more than the first 10-15 pages of the script.

I'll bet that three years after it comes out they reboot it!
  • Surely this needs to focus on the origin story, that is Captain America story. And the WW2 setting is going to make this very interesting. Its nice to see chances being taken rather than sticking with the safe stuff.

Some Superheroes dont require an origin because it is so engrained in the worlds psyche, like Superman or Spiderman, but to be honest Captain America isnt as well know as a lot of heroes, and needs this origin story.
  • To everyone who is complaining about not sticking to the source material, think about this, why do they have to be so strict and keep to the material to the letter? Not all of the source material is perfect, there has to be a place for artictic interpretation, or you negver get anything new.
Batman Begins is a prime example. It uses the source material but in a way never utilised before, and becomes a completely original take.

And the picture at the top of this article, if the movie is anything like that then I will be happy. I have faith in Joe Johnston, he gave me The Rocketeer which I love.
  • Aknot
I agree and disagree... there is being strict, bending a little then breaking it completely.

While Capt America could be the quintessential "kid fitting in" (becasue of his stature he could not fit into the Military so he agreed to help in other ways just so he could) those words make it sound like a, dare I say it, Twilight type film.

The backbone of Captain America can stay true to the source material. Not be hard for the general public to swallow and still be exciting.

Why people have to go off and say stuff like:
It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction.

Is beyond me. Who is "you" in that you? Is it my wife that as long as there is action and a decent story could care less if Steve Rogers was abducted by aliens and given his powers to fight the Japanese after the Trade Center disaster?

Or is the "you" people that knew Captain America was around during the WW as a fighter for Truth Justice in the American way using "super powers" gained from the Military..

Or is the "you" people like me that know a lot more about the Captain, his loves, his origins, leadership ability, super powers, no super powers, WW, Invaders etc...

Maybe he was referring to the people that do not expect a true "Cap" origin. Meaning real world current tech flash bang gee whiz stuff. I mean think about it..there really doesnt need to be that many special effects to pull this off. To be the Captain we know he had to have had experience (tactical, leadership, fighting, "smarts", etc) before he washed up as a Red, White and Blue popsicle. "We" know how and where he got this others dont.

And yes The Rocketeer was excellent. You could almost believe you were reading a Stevens book without having to flip the page.

"But at the heart of it, it’s a story about this kid who all he wants to do is fit in." So, this is going to be a coming of age story? I've feared for a long time that a good Capt. America movie couldn’t be made with today's politically correct sensibilities. I’m sure the true concept of Capt. America is considered too jingoistic, so the theme will be some watered down rubbish about “a boy who wants to fit in.”
  • Where did that picture come from? If it's an example of what the WWII-era Cap will look like, then I like it. I hope they include some of the stuff from the Fabian Nicieza limited-series Cap origin. It was a pretty good retelling of his story. I also liked the John Byrne version, that had some good visual elements that could be used. I like the depiction of his helmet as being just a regular helmet painted up with the A and the goggles. It's missing the mini eagle wings but that can be excused. Yeah, I don't know about Johnston as director but I guess they gotta pick someone and he has a resume.
  • mar-vel
This new "interview" with Johnston comes too quickly on the heels of his last interview. Clearly this is damage control. The majority of the feedback was largely negative. This new snippet doesn't change anything. Instead it reinforces what I fear. This isn't going to be the Captain America epic I'm hoping will make it to the big screen.
  • Evan
Marvel is 2 for 2, and Iron Man 2 is looking great, but they are not infallible. I hope they may made the right choice for the director's chair for this film. I have high hopes for Thor... I WANT to have high hopes for this, but you gotta give me something Joe!
  • insider
2 for 2? Let's be real here. Hulk was disappointing on many levels.
  • Rob_Keyes
    ya, the Ang Lee one.
  • Evan
Yeah, Incredible Hulk was far superior to Ang Lee's mess of a film...
  • mchops
Joe Johnston is starting to worry me. He doesn't sound like he has things going in the right direction and Cap'n better not go down the same road as the Wolfman with all the bad press. To me, it just seems like Joe is not taking this as seriously as he should and I haven't seen anything from him in the past ten years that shows he can handle Cap'n.
  • I really am curious to see how this film turns out. Should be a real treat, and while the talk of a "different direction" does worry me, Marvel is building a good track record with its latest films. I'm willing to give some benefit of the doubt here.
  • insider
Marvel Studios has had ONE good film, Iron Man. The rest remain to be seen including Iron Man 2. Seems like Junior has gotten a bit too full of himself along with Fav. Incredible Hulk was terrible.
  • Rob_Keyes
The Hulk was solid, I don't think you can make a better film about that character.
  • Magnus
sounds like its going to go well, Johnston is good so we'll see.
but one question.. whenever i enter this site, i get a white screen.. like if i let it load fully out, i get transfered to screenrant.com but the site is all white. so i have to stop loading of the site at like 80%.. is this me or is sometihng wrong?

so if u understood any of that and know the answer please respond:)
  • Magnus, let me know if this is still an issue - I made some changes to the site today that hopefully will address that sort of problem... (I hope).
  • Magnus
