The A-Team movie has been in development for about a decade now. It looked like it was moving forward last year when John Singleton signed on to direct and started talking about casting.
However, things didn’t come together and Singleton left the project due to “creative differences.” It looks now that The A-Team is actually set to go into production this June – and behind the wheel is Joe Carnahan (Narc) directing and Tony and Ridley Scott producing.
Now that’s exciting!

Talent fascists 20th Century Fox want the film released on June 11, 2010 so they’d better be on the ball and ready to roll soon.
The current script by Skip Woods (G.I Joe) will be tweaked by Brian Bloom and Carnahan. Instead of being Vietnam vets, The A-Team will have conducted their tour of duty in the Middle East. Carnahan says:
“You can … make a film that reflects on the real world without losing the great sense of fun and the velocity of action in a classic summer popcorn film.”
Carnahan doesn’t have much luck getting films off the ground. Over the past few years he’s developed Mission: Impossible 3, Bunny Lake Is Missing, Killing Pablo and White Jazz to no avail – so it’s easy to see why he jumped on a project that’s already moving. Carnahan went on to say:
“It’s an interesting time in Hollywood, and you have to be aware when you get the opportunity to step into a business model that is working. This was a coveted property, and reimagining a show that I remembered as a kid was tough to turn down. Fox hired me to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up.”
Now that the Scott boys are on producing duties and with Carnahan directing it looks like The-A Team will be a stylish and action-packed piece of cinema. The field is also wide open for casting due to the type of talent that the Scotts attract, and don’t forget that Carnahan’s Smokin’ Aces was also a pretty starry affair.
So I’ll ask it once again – who is your ideal A-Team?

Dick Van Dyke for Col. John ‘Hannibal’ Smith!
Christian Bale OR George Clooney OR Brad Pitt for Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck. Jim Carrey OR Don Cheadle for Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock (Both can play crazy well). And last but not least, Robert Downey, Jr. as Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus. What? Too soon?
Will they still fire lots of guns and not hurt anyone?
If not, it’s not the A Team.
Okay if they follow the casting from the television series there has to be a few elements they try to meet:
Washed up Hollywood actor to play Hannibal
A former BSG actor to play face…
A nemesis from a Rocky film to play BA (Antonio Tarver … Mason ‘The Line’ Dixon)
Anyone think of anything else..?

I am happy for Joe Carnahan. He started out with the humble “BGBO” back in 1998, in a little town called Sacramento, CA, and has gone on to this. Glad to see it.

I think this is great news as this movie has the potential to be a LOT of fun.
How about Steve Buscemi as Murdock?? He can do crazy really well. I liked the idea of Bruce Willis as Hannibal Smith, I think he’d be a perfect fit. Not too sure about Face and BA, but I don’t see why Mr. T can’t just return as BA….LOL.

I would like to believe that I am watching an A-Team and not the F-Team. Plus, it can be Diesel’s true comeback flick, he is pretty washed up wouldn’t you say GreenKnight333?
BUT, even though Carnahan is directing and the Scotts producing, this is Hollywood and a 20th Century Fox production/property.
So, I can see them getting younger actors to appeal to the ‘younger’ crowd, therefore I see:
Zac Efron as Faceman
Nick Cannon as B.A.
Ashton Kutcher as Murdock
and…
Shia Labeouf as Hannibal!
Lets hope that does not happen, but, if (thats a strong if) something like this does, then we’ll surely be seeing the P-Team instead of the A-team.
I’ve got to agree with Ving Rhames for Mr T – though it would be nice if the original had a cameo. I’d suggest George Clooney for Hannibal, channeling the way he played Danny Ocean to the hilt. I never thought about it before, but since he was mentioned Aaron Eckhart does actually look a lot like the Face man – something about the way he smiles. And I’d say Murdoch’s role was made for Jim Carrey, its the role he’s played in pretty much every other movie he’s done. But what about the girl – can’t remember her name – no one has mentioned her yet. It would be ironic to get Kara Thrace to play her, get another Starbuck in the franchise plus see if she can do girly as well as she does macho.
Ving Rhames does sound good. Def got the attitude.
If we’re going with the BSG link, maybe Face should be payed by a woman?
Have to admit to being interested in this though. How it will turn out. The A Team were so 80s – four guys travelling about together, fighting but never killing. Will they stick to that for the movie or drag it into the post-dark knight era and make it more gritty and real?
Either way I’ll probably check it out.

Any way just a few options, probably blow the budget right out. Could be interesting.
I was thinking to myself when I first heard they were remaking this – great, gonna ruin another fond memory of the 80’s…
Carnahan is a decent director and I think he can do some good work here, especially with the Scotts behind him. That said, the Scotts tend towards realism in their films and Carnahan is not shy about death scenes – I don’t think between the two of them they could ham it up to the 5 million rounds and the only damage done would be a few flipped vehicles – and then Colonel Decker rolls in to make the arrest…
Let’s not kid ourselves though, this will not be the Scott’s finest film by a long shot, it’s purely a trip down nostalgia lane to collect some cash from a hopefully entertaining film…

Here’s why – Vin Diesel cannot act, CLooney and Willis won’t do it – and Willis would be too old (maybe)
Sean William Scott has some chops, but can be a knucklehead too. Kiefer has that no BS attitude to do an MP. Ving Rhames a bit older, but could pull it off. Chris Evans is a very good actor in my opinion (see London) and could pull of the action star and slickness of Face. Thomas Jane is believable as Hannibal (he can’t be the younger guy, he’s the colonel – but should be able to handle a high action role)
AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS SACRED – NO CAMEO’S or BSG continuity – might as well hand it over to Bruckheimer or Bay and through in Jessica Simpson to really kill this one before it ever starts…
