In the “old news is good news” department, yesterday Variety confirmed what’s been reported on movie sites (including this one) for quite a while, which is that George Miller (who directed the CGI penguin flick Happy Feet) is now officially onboard to direct the Justice League movie.
Warner Bros. wants to fast-track this and get production rolling ASAP for a 2009 release. Presumably it’s so they can get it well into production before the maybe-happening WGA strike next July.

At this time there is still not Christian Bale (Batman) or Brandon Routh (Superman) involvement in the film, and in further casting non-news IESB have reversed themselves on the news that Tom Welling (who plays Clark Kent on the TV series Smallville) will be playing Superman in the Justice League film.
Previously they had reported that they had “rock solid” info stating that Welling was indeed going to play the role in the movie, but the same source that gave them that info has now stated basically “oops, sorry, not happening.” For the full scoop go here.
In other Superman-related news, it seems that the sequel to Superman Returns, tentatively title Superman: Man of Steel, has been pushed back indefinitely in order for the JLA movie to move forward. Personally, that doesn’t bother me since I thought Bryan Singer’s version was very disappointing and the prospect of having Lex Luthor be the villain for the umpteenth time leaves me uninterested.

Please let it NOT be MO-CAP! I’m excited this is happening,but I don’t want Ryan Gosling as Batman,like the rumors say,maybe Flash,but NOT Batman.
I thought Superman Returns was more good than bad,even with some of the problems it had,and I’ve been looking forward to the sequel ever since it was announced (it features Braniac and Metalo,not just Lex,FYI Vic).
I don’t know why you keep ragging on Superman Returns,Vic,considering you gave it a 4 out of 5 in your review. It wasn’t a bad movie,it’s just the kid that puts a ball and chain on it,IMHO. And yes,Lex does get a little old at times but they did a good job with him,and Singer is using Braniac in the sequel,so it’s not going to be Lex as the main villain again.
Don’t know why Warners isn’t trying harder for MOS,considering Superman Returns performed better at the box office than Batman Begins.
Batman Begins=370 mil.
Superman Returns=390 mil.
It must have caught me in a very VERY good mood that day. I’ve tried re-watching it since on DVD and and just cannot get through it.
I want my heroes, heroic, not all weepy. Sure, you can hint at their weaknesses, but geez… That’s one of the problems “Spider-Man 3″ had as well.

A VERY good mood,eh? LOL! I think a lot of us at the time (myself included) were so happy with the thought of Superman being in a movie again that we didn’t care how it was. When I first saw it I was like “WOW! I give this a 10 outa 10!” But then when I saw it a second time and watched it on DVD after all the hype and excitement was over,some of the stuff began to sink in,and I began to realize that I had some problems with it, and then I was like “I like it,but some of the stuff is….meh. So it gets an 8 outa 10 instead”.
I totally agree with what you said about Spider-Man 3.
Did you see the Iron Man and Incredible Hulk movie artwork at Superherohype.com? I thought they were pretty cool.
