I know this is an old post, but I feel you should know this information.

I am the publicist for a NYC singer/musician who has been performing the longest-running & ONLY authentic Hendrix show since 1968 when he was a member of Jimi’s official fan club. In the ’80′s he performed a 1 man off-Broadway play about Jimi which ran for 6 weeks before it was pulled by the then Hendrix estate lawyers for copyright infringement.

He has toured with & opened for some of the top names in the industry & after being shunned by numerous film producers as well as the current Hendrix estate, he is now in post-production on a film that is loosely based on Jimi, not a biopic.

Well..This should be an indie pic.. with an unknown actor to play him, or else it will turn out to be something Hendrix would have hated. I really can’t see any really famous actors who could play him.. stage presence is a huge part of playing a musician, and it’s not impossible to recreate, but his was so different. His presence on stage is part of why he’s so popular, you can’t copy that.

Its not so much the guitar work im worried about (though that is a big part) its Hendrix’s stage presense, his indescribable…um…spiritual eroticism that they will never be able to capture. Thats why “The Doors” didnt work and there hasnt been a Beatles movie, no good actors, unless they are live performers, can simulate stage presence.

I heard about 3 or 4 years ago when they “first” announced plans for a Hendrix biopic that the frontrunner for the role was Andre 3000 from Outcast,as stated earlier.

He might get the look down,but no matter what they do,there isn’t a single A-list actor out there that would be able to even come close to mimicking his guitar skills.They will have to find a complete unknown who actually knows how to play guitar.

I think Kravitz is the next closest thing,but he’s got too much Prince in him to play 100% Jimi.

crap, milking Hendrix for his fame and not for his talent or influence, or his unique personality is musical blasphemy. The only thing i could see being done worse is milking the life of Duane Almann (who i personally believe is better) but Hendrix should not be used as some cash cow
