Coming off an extremely successful 2016, Marvel Studios shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with 2017 set to be the company’s biggest year to date. On the big screen side, 3 new MCU films will debut in the same calendar year for the first time, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming in the spring, Spider-Man: Homecoming arriving in the summer, and Thor: Ragnarok heading to battle in the fall. Just as busy, though, is Marvel Studios’ TV division, with 3 original Netflix seasons all set to debut in 2017.
On March 17, Iron Fist season 1 stakes its claim to the Marvel Netflix dynasty, which will lead directly into the summer arrival of The Defenders miniseries. An 8-episode event, The Defenders will feature the first ever on-screen team-up between Marvel street-level heroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Another hero — or more accurately anti-hero- – rumored to make an appearance in Defenders is The Punisher, whose solo Netflix series is anticipated to debut this year as well.
As fans everywhere prepare for the Marvel Netflix world to get bigger than it’s ever been before, toy makers Funko have seen fit to unveil their new line of Funk Pop! vinyl figures based on the heroes of Hell’s Kitchen. Included in the set are Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Elektra, and two versions of Frank Castle, aka the Punisher. Check them all out in the gallery below:
The look of the Jessica Jones and Luke Cage figures are based on their appearances in 2015’s Jessica Jones season 1, although one assumes a figure based on one of Luke’s solo Netflix series looks might be in the offing sooner or later. Daredevil and Elektra are based on their costumes from Daredevil season 2, as are both variations on the Punisher. In a nice touch, Frank even sports his under-eye scar. The first take on Punisher is his classical look, complete with machine gun and trench coat. Variation 2 sees Frank wearing black leather, while carrying a handgun in one hand and Daredevil’s mask in the other. This version is a limited edition.
The Jessica and Luke figures are currently available for purchase, per Funko’s official site. The Daredevil, Elektra, and Punisher figures will be available in February. For those interested, Pop! figures based on Daredevil season 1 were also previously released, including one of Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk. Sadly, it doesn’t appear that a Kilgrave figure is in the cards, although considering how creepy he is, maybe that’s for the best.
Daredevil season 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17. The Defenders and The Punisher will arrive at some point this year. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been revealed.
