Season 2 of Netflix's second Marvel TV series Jessica Jones adds Leah Gibson as series regular Ingrid, who many have speculated will become Typhoid Mary. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe originally expanded to television via ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., their street-level corner of the MCU on Netflix has grown exponentially since kicking off with Daredevil in 2015. Season 1 of the Matt Murdock-led series was followed by freshman outings of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, as well as a second season of Daredevil. Next, the four heroes will team up for The Defenders, before Marvel's first spinoff from their Netflix corner of the MCU, The Punisher, debuts later this year.

With the majority of Marvel's Netflix series generating positive reactions among critics and casual audiences alike, 2018 will see highly anticipated follow-up seasons of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil arrive. For its part, Jessica Jones season 2 has been filming since this spring, but the latest report about the Netflix series reveals who will be playing a new series regular - and potentially another villain for Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) to fight.

Variety is reporting Jessica Jones has cast Leah Gibson (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) as Ingrid, who is described as a street-wise character with education as a nurse. The role of Ingrid was mentioned in a list of Jessica Jones season 2 character breakdowns, with speculation quickly pointing to the character becoming Marvel Comics villain Typhoid Mary. However, with information about Jessica Jones season 2 being kept as tightly under wraps as all Marvel productions, it's far from confirmed Typhoid Mary will appear, let alone that Ingrid will become the comic book character.

Leah Gibson in The Returned

Originally introduced in the Marvel Comics as a villain for Daredevil, Mary Walker is a mutant who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, with three other identities who go by Typhoid, Mary, and Bloody Mary. She has some powers like pyrokinesis, telekinesis, psionic hypnosis. Of course, since she went up against Daredevil in the comics, she also ran into his fellow street-level heroes, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones - so it wouldn't be a huge divergence from the comics for the character to appear in Jessica Jones season 2. (Plus, there may have been a Typhoid Mary reference in Doctor Strange.)

Of course, with so little information to go one when it comes to Gibson's character, Ingrid, it's unclear if she actually will become Typhoid Mary. The character names are obviously quite different, but it's entirely possible the Jessica Jones production is using a different name than the show's actual character in order to throw fans off. However, we won't know for sure until closer to season 2's premiere, or Marvel confirms whether or not Ingrid is Typhoid Mary.

In terms of the Jessica Jones season 2 cast, Gibson joins fellow series newcomer Janet McTeer, who was cast in a mystery role earlier this year. Otherwise, the show's main season 1 cast will return, including Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and potentially Wil Traval as Will Simpson. Jessica Jones season 2 doesn't yet have a premiere date, but perhaps Marvel TV will tease the show's upcoming season at Comic-Con International in San Diego next week.
