Jericho: Will CBS Provide “Closure”?

Published 7 years ago by

I don’t know if anything will actually be done that will satisfy fans of CBS’ canceled Jericho series, but at the very least it’s apparent that they have heard the outcry and have responded to the fans.

Here’s a quote by Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment:

We have read your emails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment. Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the Network, the production company and the incredibly-talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show — both on-air and online. It is a show we loved too.

Thank you for supporting Jericho with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story.

This was posted on the official Jericho message board. Some of the replies have been appreciative and polite, with many saying basically “thanks for the gesture, but we want the series renewed for another year.” Of course there have been a number of posts by the usual contingent of raving lunatics (“you’ve ruined my life you stinking #%#%!!!!” and the like).

There’s nothing in the quote regarding perhaps a two-hour made for TV film, but for some reason that’s the assumption folks are making. I think that CBS could have a real opportunity here to come up with something very creative… perhaps something that hasn’t been done before. I don’t know what that might be, but hey, that’s their job. icon smile Jericho: Will CBS Provide Closure? In essence, if they have anyone really smart and creative over there (which they do, they DID produce Jericho after all), they could turn this lemon (not the show, the bad PR generated by the cancellation) into lemonade.

C’mon CBS, get those creative juices flowing and come up with a winning solution to this and turn yourselves from chumps into champs in the eyes of your viewers!

  1. My bet is on a 5-Minute webisode. :) Hey maybe CBS is more noble than that, but I doubt they are going to dump lots of money into what they have already deemed a losing venture.

I think that I am going to hold off watching any news shows next year until they have been picked up for a second season. I never watched Jericho, but I would be furious if I had.

Hope this situation has a happy ending.

  2. Don’t get angry, get nuts!
