I couldn’t recommend this show to a new fan. The story is too conspiratorial and entangled now. S1 was mostly about characters. I have a hard time caring about all the most photogenic, but least compelling, characters.

Each episode begins, for me, with tired old formula. But then, about halfway in, it starts to grab my attention.

At least they finally gave a working reason for the Cheyenne government being so organized in such a short amount of time. Come on, rewritten text books, trade limits, vaccines–not to mention ***new flags***? I can believe nuclear bombs dropped all over the country. I can’t believe citizens sheepishly accepting another flag in any jurisdiction (well, maybe Berkeley).

They certainly did resolve the New Bern war quickly. I think you are right about condensing as much story into 7 episodes as they possibly can. The show has certainly shifted from the struggle to survive which was the main plot of season one to a greater focus on the conspiracy. 4 episodes into the season and ratings have not picked up. I heard they had two different endings in the can and whether they get picked up for a 3rd season would determine which they use. It looks like they will have to use the one that offers somewhat of a conclusion to the series.

Yeah, they’re really hamstrung with the limited number here. I hadn’t re-watched the season one finale but if I had I probably would have felt more deflated about the premiere.

Season 1 left me on the edge of my chair waiting for the explosive second part. But instead of a plot with the bang of dynamite we got a firecracker. The “local war” starts at the end of one show and the next episode it is done with and the residents are getting on with their lives, wow what a waste. Did CBS missed the fact that the drama created in the last episode was the reason people lobbied for more shows? Probably not, it is more likely you were correct when you wrote “they’re trying to pack 22 episodes of content into just seven”. With a conclusion in place after 7 episodes no one will be sending them NUTS in an effort to get a movie made!

You’re right, Vic, it was a little rushed. But if 24 is “real time” and Lost is “ass-draggingly slow time,” Jericho consolidated time.

Major Beck seems to be a good man. He is intentionally empowering the people of Jericho.

It’s’ ironic that Jake and Eric were at each other’s throats, since last time we saw them, they were embracing and in tears after their father’s death. (One of the most moving scenes I’ve ever witnessed.)

I don’t trust Chavez, and I don’t know why Hawkins does. After laying ALL his cards on the table for this old colleague, Chavez reciprocates with information that is all old and publicly available.

I don’t like seeing another flag go up the pole, even in a post-apocalyptic drama.
