Jennifer Garner In Talks to Join Jeremy Renner In ‘Better Living Through Chemistry’

Actress Jennifer Garner is still known best for kickin’ butt as Sydney Bristow on J.J. Abrams’ Alias, but her next role may be that of a trophy wife in the macabre thriller Better Living Through Chemistry.

Garner would join Jeremy Renner – who appears opposite Garner’s husband, Ben Affleck, in today’s new release, The Town – in Better Living Through Chemistry.  Occupant Films is responsible for funding the project, which is being written and directed by relative newcomers Geoff Moore and David Posamentier.

Chemistry can best be described as a neo-Noirish tale that revolves around a small-town pharmacist (Renner) who is trapped in a loveless marriage only to begin an affair with a gorgeous housewife (the role Garner is in talks for).  The two eventually form a plan to murder the woman’s husband.

The title of the pic refers to the illicit couple’s use of prescription drugs, which Renner’s character naturally has access to.  Chemistry sounds as though it could be a cross between a film like Darren Aronofsky’s drug drama Requiem for a Dream and the Coen Brother’s Blood Simple (see below) – except that the unfaithful wife is the one with murder on her mind this time around.  This could be either an intriguingly malicious thriller or an unintentionally hokey one.

Blood Simple Jennifer Garner In Talks to Join Jeremy Renner In Better Living Through Chemistry

Jennifer Garner has appeared in some less-than-memorable rom-coms like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and Valentine’s Day since her generally well-received turn as a wannabe mother in Juno back in 2007, but she is still a decent actress with the looks to be convincing as a prize trophy wife.

Renner is signed on for almost too many upcoming projects to keep track of – besides his Chemistry role, he is attached to The Master, Mission: Impossible 4, and The Avengers and is currently holding discussions to star in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and By Virtue Fall.  Talk about striking while the iron is hot…

Look for production on Better Living Through Chemistry to begin in the near future, with a late 2011 release date in mind.
