Is Jeffrey Dean Morgan Returning to Supernatural?

A while back, word on the street was that the CW network would love to have John Winchester pass on through Supernatural in its 5th season. Howevever, showrunner Eric Kripke has been noted to saying that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s schedule wasn’t making it easy to happen.

But was Kripke messing with us?

I ask because Morgan said in an interview with SCI FI Wire that no one has contacted him and adds that he’d love to come back and do an episode.

“I don’t know how I’d find the time, but we’ll see.”

In the same article, Morgan also touched on a rumor that there might be a spin-off  / reboot of Supernatural with different or secondary characters.

He has the same take I do on that rumor: The show would lose 90% of its demographic and it’s almost as stupid of an idea / rumor as was the short lived idea by The CW to have The Graysons be a TV series.

So… what’s the deal?  Is this all talk from a man with a way-too-busy schedule or does he really want to do a return guest spot?  For the man I’m pulling to play Lobo, I’d rather he go smash things than hunt ghosts! But that’s just me if I had to choose.

Best of both worlds?

Have Lobo played by Morgan show up in Supernatural, and the Winchester brothers be freaked out how much he looks like their dad.

  1. john winchester coming back for an episode would be awesome. I would love to see it happen.

  2. I think he shoudl come back but only as a spirit and ONLY as a guide or a voice to Dean. I think having him guest star in a whole episode or several episodes would be ridiculous- he’s dead. But they could do something cool with teh whole spirit concept. I have confidence in Kripke and the show and I know that they will not let me down. BTW season premiere was GREAT

  3. I’d love to see John Winchester again in Supernatural :)

  4. Why did I read this? I’ve only seen the first season and didn’t know he died. CRAP!!

  5. He may be dead but whats the shows title again?

  6. Crap! Sorry John!!

  7. @ Brodie Bruce
Bringing him back as one of teh 4 horsemen would be a GREAT idea and I think that would a add even more emotion and chemistry to the show. Although, in the seaosn 2 finale he escaped hell and it looked like his soul was finally released into heaven; or so I liked to think. I think bringing him back as an angel woudl also be interesting but if they could manage to bring him back as one of the horseman with a good explanation that probably would be the best idea

  8. Which of the 4? Not War, that’s for certain. Famine? The Conqueror? Death?

Can you really see him as any of those (I’m sure he’d do a great job but that would lessen his sacrifices earlier in the series).

Of the three I can only see him as Death and even then not as John Winchester, just as Death using his appearance to mess with the boys.

  9. Why do I keep doing this to myself. I just saw the episode where people’s wishes were fulfilled by a demon for 10 years, then the hounds of hell take them. The demon alleged that John was sent to hell; now I read that he escaped from hell. CRAP!

Actually, I don’t mind reading these. I just like to yell. :-)

  10. That’d be a great way to bring him back, jordi! With his acting ability, I’m sure he could pull off a Death mocking the boys, too!

It wouldn’t be too surprising if the Angels did something to bring John back as a new kind of spirit and John possesses Dean to do something Dean wasn’t ready to do. Afterward, he could reveal himself and Dean would go ballistic on him for making decisions again, especially like that, but with John being colder than usual. It could be a good arc to truly finish the Dean/John son surpassing the father angle and you know it would be touching in the end.

  11. I can’t help but think that the obvious role for him to come back in is …God. Dean is Michael, Sam is Lucifer, and dad would be the obvious parallel.

  12. Jeffery Dean Morgan should definitely return as he is. Where did he go heaven? hell? PURGATORY? Don’t they know the way in and out of there? Dean needs dad. Sam seems to have something keeping him from having feelings. I say we fish dad out of purgatory and let him figure it out.
