When it comes to creating a section of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn has been given the biggest part to explore. He only began to flesh out the cosmos in Guardians of the Galaxy and is looking to do even more in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but that does not mean these are his areas of interest. As a matter of fact, Gunn is also a big fan of Moon Knight - a hero with multiple personalities and incredibly unique stories.

Moon Knight has been heavily linked to Netflix if he were given the chance to make a debut in the MCU, but with the streaming service's already busy schedule, that seems less likely. In the meantime, Marvel Studios continues to push the boundaries of superhero movies (just look at the visual style of Doctor Strange) and they could have another unique concept on hand thanks to Gunn's idea for a Moon Knight movie.

Gunn was asked on Twitter about the possibility of Moon Knight teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy at some point, and while that is certainly not in the cards, the director did reveal he has shared his pitch for a movie with Marvel Studios.

Oh my God I love Moon Knight & I have a great idea for a movie, I just wish I had the time (but, no, he doesn't belong in Guardians). https://t.co/ARJCPh62gt— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) January 4, 2017

@MCU__news I told them. But, like I said, I just don't have the time.— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) January 4, 2017

There has not been any movement on Moon Knight getting his own film, but if the MCU continues for multiple decades there is no telling what characters could one day lead their own film. That said, they could be more interested in making this happen if Gunn's pitch is as great as he teases. Even if that is the case, a Moon Knight film would be unlike anything else Marvel has done if they followed a similar approach to the comics and jumped back and forth between the lives of his multiple personalities.

If Gunn's pitch is terrific but Marvel Studios still does not have the capacity to fit it in sometime soon, formatting the idea for a season on Netflix could be possible as well. While some may think this could leave Gunn uninvolved with the project, it all depends on how involved he stays with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. After all, he did say he would direct a Marvel/Netflix show only if it was the pilot, and the idea of Gunn directing an episode of a Moon Knight Netflix series is already enough to get people excited.

While there is still no definitive interest from Marvel Studios to use the character, or hints toward his eventual introduction on Netflix, Moon Knight continues to be one of the most highly requested characters to next join the universe. It seems likely it will happen at some point, with or without Gunn, now fans just have to wait and see in what medium it happens and who is involved.
