Did anyone else notice the parallels of Avatar and Dances With Wolves? It's a futuristic Dances With Wolves in my opinion which was a great movie. I could call pretty much the rest of the movie once you could see the attaction between Jake and Neytiri. Doesn't make it bad though. I still really enjoyed the movie and thought it was an interesting step in a new direction when it comes to cinema. I'm not really sure where the trilogy will lead but I am curious to find out.

Sounds ok I guess, as long as Cameron leaves out the lame political references aka
"shock and awe" and "pre-emptive attack".

I dont really see a sequel being a good idea from the story's point of view. I just saw the film this Sunday and I have to say to my surprise I really enjoyed it. Special effects aside ( which WERE great) the storyline was excellent and there was a lot of passion in the movie. The way the movie ended I think is ideal and it does not warrant a sequel. A sequel, to me at least, would be dragging on the film. Some things are clearly better left to the imagination. Jake Sully is now no longer a human and that relation to humanity that we had in the first film will no longer be present. Much like in the Matrix once Neo became "the one" there really was nowhere left to go from there, the franchise should have ended after the first film. Instead we got two sequels and I, along with many others, now loath a franchise we once loved. Hate to see that happen here....but I am sure it will

I'm with sam beckett on this one. I have a feeling Cameron is going to bring something new the table like he did with Aliens. The question is how is he going to flip things on their side? I would naturally say they (the marines) come back with a much larger force but that just seems way too cliche. I think its possible he might introduce a new kind of threat other than humans.. i dunno maybe another humanoid species that are more advanced than humans.. Could make things more interesting. Also he could go for an edgier look with deeper character development. Just a little food for thought

Considering the way Cameron approaches sequels, he likes to use the original as a base and then flip it in a totally new direction, which surely is the point of a sequel in the first place, but maybe he will have the Na'vi portrayed in a more villainous light for some reason.

On that Day and it is near some people are going to curse the day that their mothers bring them to the world. To James Cameron it would be better for you if a millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea.
dayofwrath

Oh yeah one more thing, you are friggin nuts. It has been a while since I have seen an illuminati crackpot. I got news for you the illuminati is not a secret underground conspiracy. The modern Illuminati would be the heads of huge corperations that manage control on the political level. And yes Avatars tree hugging message of save the environment is very satanic lol.

Close but no cigar, avatars are vehicles of the gods. They predate christianity. For instance Avatars appear in both Hindu and Norse religions.

@ twistedburton

True it's hard to see where Cameron would go with a sequel but you really have to look at his track record with sequels (i.e. Terminator 2 and Aliens). In both cases, especially the latter, it seemed like there wasn't much to build off of for a sequel but Cameron still managed to flip both movies around and IMO exceed the first. That said, I have a feeling Cameron already knows exactly what he wants to do for the next Avatar.

I've said it before and I will gladly say it again... I did not like "Avatar". The effects were awesome blah blah blah, but other than that? The story was nothing new, original, or interesting. There was literally an hour where nothing of importance occurred in the film. As of now I won't see a sequel, because how would they make a sequel?

SPOILERS
The main villain is dead, Jake is a Na'vi, Grace is dead, and the Americans just left... So... We see Jake and Neytiri just wander around Pandora so Cameron can showcase some pretty pictures? No thank you. I'll pass on this one, but if it's a huge hit when it gets released (which it most likely will be) then I may as well see it so I can have an opinion on it.

Avatar has been James Cameron's favourite script for a decade and a half! He waited patiently for it to become feasible. There is no way in hell he is going to let others direct the sequels. This is HIS Star Wars(original trilogy)!

I don't understand why people keep saying it's probably unlikely Cameron would direct. Why wouldn't he if he's passionate about it and has already planned out everything? And after his Terminator franchise got ruined after he left.
