Is The ‘King of the World’ Headed To Forbidden Planet?

forbidden planet remake Is The King of the World Headed To Forbidden Planet?

To be honest, I always had Warner Brothers’ remake of Forbidden Planet pegged as one of those projects that would get a lot of attention in its early development, appear to be moving forward, but ultimately never see the light of day.

Don’t ask me why, folks. It’s just always been a hunch on my part.

Well, if this latest development turns out to be true (and I, for one, believe the good folks behind the story), I’m perfectly fine with being wrong on this one.

Our buddies over at IESB have discovered that none other than James Cameron, who’s currently up to his eyeballs making his 3D science-fiction epic Avatar for Christmas 2009 release, is “is eyeing the project and is very interested in helming”

That’s right, boys and girls…

In the near future, you may actually see a film with the names James Cameron and J. Michael Straczynski (i.e. the creator of Babylon 5 and currently typing away on the Forbidden screenplay) in the credits.

To be fair, this isn’t set in stone and Cameron has plenty of other projects lined up once he finishes Avatar.

That being said, if the self-proclaimed “King of the World” opts to make Forbidden Planet his next film, you’re going to hear a lot of people geeking out.

[Update: In addition to a certain “King of the World” hoping to direct, IESB also got their hands on story details behind the new Forbidden Planet revealing that it is not a remake as writer J. Michael Straczynski promised. Be warned though, it contains major spoilers!]

  1. If Avatar blows my mind like I hope it does then Cameron is the King of the World.

Quality of Quantity baby, this is why Cameron is the man.

  2. And I would be one of those “geeking out”. I love Forbidden Planet but it is time for a remake, and Cameron is da’ man.
