MGM’s financial troubles have led to both the new James Bond film and The Hobbit being delayed (alongside a whole host of other films). While The Hobbit continues its pre-production, it seems that work on the next James Bond film has ceased all together. Bond Producer Michael G. Wilson however, seems to be adamant that the film will make it to screens “soon.”

Wilson was at the launch of the new Bond video game Blood Stone, and he was obviously asked about the progress on next James Bond adventure. His reply?

“Both Barbara [Broccoli, his co-producer and step-sister] and I are convinced that we’ll be bringing you another Bond film soon.”

This news is hardly a surprise. Wilson isn’t going to say (or even play with the idea publicly) that we won’t be seeing another Bond film for a long time. He’s probably being optimistic because MGM was recently given another bankruptcy extension, meaning that this limbo will continue for a while yet – with September being the earliest date.

I can’t imagine that work has fully stopped on the next Bond film. The franchise is the family business for Wilson and Broccoli and they’ll want to get the twenty third Bond film on screens as soon as MGM’s troubles have been sorted out.

Blood Stone

Oscar winning director Sam Mendes was developing the film before the production apparently ceased, but it’s believed that both he and star Daniel Craig will remain on the project once it gets back on track.

Blood Stone, the new Activision James Bond game coming out next year, should keep the James Bond brand in the public consciousness for the film being – not that there’s any fear that people will forget who James Bond is. Along with Mickey Mouse, Sherlock Holmes and Superman, Ian Fleming’s spy is probably one of the most famous fictional characters of all time and it’ll take more than a few years away from screens to change that.

One thing is for sure; You can find out all the latest news on James Bond here at Screen Rant when it happens.

  1. dont care, i care more about the hobbit fiasco lol. not holding my breath on either movies at this point

  2. I’m the biggest Bond fan there is, and I’m just tired of hearing about this now.

    • you and me both man. i think i might start watching some of the brosnan bond movies

  3. Can’t wait for this movie.

  4. Can’t pretend I was eagerly awaiting this either, QOS goes right in at number 23 on my list of Bond movies, I hated almost every second of that truly awful cinematic turd.

    • @Sam

Yah, it’s weird because I absolutely loved Casino Royale, it is probably my number 1 Bond movie, then QoS was just about the worst, lol. Well, I didn’t really like a lot of the Brosnan ones either, especially the last two… ugh… but Goldeneye was great.

  5. even if Bond did not return right away, you know if MGM gave the full rights to Sony – the longest time span without a Bond film was six years. (1989-2005) even if the actors changed.

    soon could be without mgm/ua.

    • it’s 1995 not 1985

  6. I really have felt all along that this whole ‘bankruptcy’ situation was
just a promotional stunt to get “BOND 23″ going on track and I personally
also believe that Eon Productions and MGM have begun production awhile back. As some fans out there may remember that the writers of the “BOND 23″ movie have claimed that there would be ‘A shocking story” contained
within the movie itself, but I personally believe that the ‘shocking story’
element is more about the much earlier release of “BOND 23″ to surprise
the James Bond fans. The much earlier release date than expected is what
I feel is the “shocking story” element to making the “BOND 23″ to be ever
more so captivating resulting to “BOND 23″ becoming more successful than
“BOND 21″ OR “BOND 22″. This promotional stunt I believe will take Eon
Productions and MGM well over the top more than ‘ten fold’ financially
compared to the last two BOND movies.

  7. In movie talk “Soon” means a few years at best. We should see Bond 23 sometime in 2013.

Personally if this stalls the Hobbit or even forces its downfall I will be very happy. I care more about Ghost Rider2 then the Hobbit story.

    • 790…youre hilarious man.

  8. You know It’s hard to believe its been around 7 years since the release of “Return of The King!”

  9. Meh not at all interested in the film. I’m gonna be giving the game a try though when it’s released.

Also while I always enjoyed the LOTR trilogy I’ve never liked The Hobbit. I never understood it’s appeal it’s fairly uninteresting and dull compared to the rest of the franchise.

  10. If they don’t hurry, we’ll have to go through Bond recasting and I just don’t have the strength for it after all the Marvel casting craziness. If it comes to recasting, just pick Tom Hardy and stand back.

  11. I hope this producer knows something we don’t. Otherwise it’s just more empty talk…

  12. If Michael G. Wilson is adamant that “BOND 23 ” will be out soon, I do
not think that’soon’means 2012 or 2013 if they want to make their profits
sooner, especially if they and MGM are desperate for immediate financial gain so they can do the “Hobbit” and their other planned movies in pro-
ductions that are around the corner. They certainly do not want any financial problems or have to deal with bankruptcy problems. They just
received an extention on their bankruptcy,so this is their only way out
of this mess. Look forward to a good possibility of some kind of “BOND
23″ trailer just before New Years of 2011 in the movie theaters with at
least whatever they’ve accomplished so far of film footage they haven’t told us about yet. Of course with the music as well. It should be a great
trailer. Expect “BOND 23″ in the Summer or Fall of 2011 or the very very
    latest December of 2011.

  13. BRAD GOLDMAN, if they started production tomorrow the film wouldn’t be released til possibly Summer of 2012.

Are they in production yet? Nope because MGM is delaying the film by getting bankruptcy extensions.
I doubt MGM has enough money to hire a location scout at this point. The more extentions MGM gets the longer your gonna wait for Bong23.

  14. Seen all Bond movies. I Think Bond23 will be released around 2011. Can’t wait. But, I think Bond25[sights of a spy] will be the best. QoS was terrible but i’m thinking Bond23 will make up for it.

  15. Think Bond23 will get about 3.5 stars but will seem alot better. But i’m telling you Bond25[Sights of a spy starring Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage] will be the best of all Bond movies. Sights of a spy will also be the finale to the Bond series. You can look up a commercial for Sights of a Spy [and for some reason not Bond23] on Youtube. Type in Sights of a spy and you can see the preview! Can’t wait for Bond23 Bond24 and Bond25!

  16. It seems more likely for a 2012 release, 50th anniversary and all that. Surely thats what they will aim for.

  17. i hope they dont man they messed up the bond series bad, even the new bont sucks @ss, they just need to stop, its all the smae s***

  18. As I said some time back,in reference to when Michael G Wilson said that he was ‘adamamt’ about BOND 23 coming out soon,it does not mean 2012
or 2013. With another recent extension on MGM’s bankruptcy,it only means
that BOND 23 will have to be out much sooner like absolutely no later than
Winter of 2011, because there’s too much money to lose for the production to be waiting around going past the end of 2011. Of course, something has in fact been going on with the BOND 23 production. They’ve had to have been working on the film all along, but also working hard at trying to keep the lid on keeping everyone’s mouth shut. While MGM has been granted their extension, they have been pulling this publicity stunt of making all the BOND fans wonder with all of the hype about when they are going to be
bought or who’s going to be buying them or how much they are going to remain in their financial situation and I don’t think that they are going to get a third bankruptcy extension and nor do I feel that there is anyone
out there that is going to be buying them out any time soon. So if all the
chips are down for MGM,what the hell do they have to lose since now that the new James Bond video game BLOOD STONE
