According to Jack Black himself:
“I took a meeting with someone who has the rights, but there’s no [Green Lantern] script,” Black told EW. “I’d be interested if there was a really good writer attached, but it’s far from a [done deal].”
Now before you Green Lantern fans breathe a collective sigh of relief, re-read that quote and consider the following:
- Someone who has the rights to GL contacted Jack Black about the role.
- Jack is still interested in playing the role.
It ain’t over yet, folks.

Jack Black’s star really seems to be on the rise. He recently did School of Rock, he’s doing one of the voices in the upcoming Shark Tale and he’s in talks for several other movies, including GL. If this does end up being made (which I’m not sure it will), let’s hope it turns out to be surprisingly decent in a Pirates of the Caribbean sort of way.
