The Walking Dead isn't the only zombie-based comic book adaptation on the small screen - The CW's iZombie provides a fresh, funny take on the undead, and it's returning this spring for season 3. The show stars Rose McIver as Olivia (Liv) Moore - the titular zombie. Olivia remains entirely functional, as long as she eats a regular supply of brains. So, she takes a job in a morgue, and discovers that the brains she eats affect her behavior and give her access to the dead person's memories. In the upcoming season, for example, Liv is reportedly going to be chowing down on some dominatrix brains, which are sure to lead to interesting on-screen adventures.

Fans of the show have been waiting nearly a year to see that particular story, however, as season 2 ended in April 2016. Happily, their wait is almost over, as the show teased the official air date for the third season today.

On the official iZombie Facebook page, the show posted a photo of the show's cast, with the air date over the top. The photo is captioned: "Zombies are coming back to The CW with the premiere of iZombie on Tuesday, April 4 at 9/8c!".

iZombie Season 3 Cast Photo Premiere Date

iZombie seems to be struggling a little to find a regular spot within the TV season. The first season of the show ran from March to June 2015 (with a short season of 13 episodes). The second season, thanks to the interest in the show, got a longer season of 19 episodes, which aired from October 2015 to April 2016. After such a short hiatus between the first and second seasons, fans have been getting frustrated with the long wait for the show to return, and it has not yet been confirmed how many episodes this third season will receive. The show will now be airing after The Flash, replacing Legends of Tomorrow after their season finale.

This is huge news for iZombie fans, who have been waiting for an official air date for this season since it was announced that the show had been renewed in November. We're excited to see where this season goes, and how Liv aligns herself. Will she choose to side with humans, or with zombies? The usual murder-mystery episodes will still be a part of the show, of course, and all the regulars will be returning to this fantastic zombie dramedy.

Fans may, however, be disappointed that the cast photo that was released today does not show the actors in costume. The five stars pictured are looking fantastic, but it would have been even more exciting to see them in character. Still, this means that we only have six weeks to go until the show returns to our screens, and that can only be good news for fans.
