I would love to see a 3rd Ghostbusters film. being a kid of the 80s myself this film broke me of having nightmares of ghosts. but with Murray and Aykroyd along with the others, 2 of the best, most memorable, actors from the 70/80′s I think they deserve to be able to close out this series and hand it to their kids(in them movie). That in my opinion would be able to either close the series, or if it took open it for a younger generation. The only thing I would do is perhaps make it a bit scarier, yes it’s a comedy, but having those pieces of terror are good.
I do have a question though, is the only reason Milano being supposedly cast in the movie is because she’s in the game that recently came out? Cause in that game Milano and Murray getting together… I’m sorry but lol I don’t see my grandpa making it with someone that’s my age. Perhaps if she was his kid.
I like the premise of their kids, Weaver’ kid and perhaps Murray’ adopted kid, plus whoever else has kids that want to be ghostbusters, perhaps making it where the kids hate their parents and what they do but when the time comes they need to step up.. OR! They could always do the game as it is very worthy of a story, but I like the kids taking over story better.. would give it another shot at going again.. like trek.

@SK-47 – it’s easy…I just put my lips together and the words comes out “I think Kingpin was horrible” I like the Farrely bros just not that movie. Every character in it was annoying to me.

Paul Young, how can you say that Kingpin was horrible? That is THE best and funniest Farrerly brothers film! Murray was great in that, so was Harrelson and Quaid!
I can agree with you on Mars Attacks!, Airheads was pretty good as well to see what Sandler can really do instead of his usual stuff, Fraser & Buscemi are good together.

But, Kingpin rules, seriously reconsider you stance on it. What is so bad about it anyway I would like to know?

Classics? Classic garbage, maybe. Those films were AWFUL.

I feel that there were classic films from every decade in the comedy genre. The 80′s were different than the 90′s and the movies of the time showcase that. To be fair, some of those movies that Paul mentioned were awful (i.e. Mannequin and Raising Arizona) and some of the movies you mentioned are some of my all-time favorite movies (i.e. Happy Gilmore, Austin Powers). Face it, there was crap in the 70′s, the 80′s, the 90′s AND the 00′s. There were also some classic films that will be funny 30 years from now too.

Those three movies were all fairly popular and people still talk about them to this day. They pretty loved especially Mars Attacks and Airheads. Both are widely considered classics.

I thought comedies from the 80′s were overly cheesy. I enjoyed most of those when I was a kid, but now as an adult watching them with fresh eyes the only one I still enjoy is Space Balls. The rest were incredibly cheesy films to me. Space Balls is even border line.

I noticed you left a lot of great comedies from the 90′s off your list. I wonder if that was intentional to try and prove your point as right or if you actually forgot about them. I’m shocked to see movies like Robin Hood Men In Tights missing from your list as well as Kingpin, The First Austin Powers none of the sequels,Mall Rats, Dogma, Airheads, Maverick, Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Happy Gilmore, Mars Attacks, Liar Liar, Swingers, Big Lowboski, Ground Hog Day, Does Toy story count?, and I can’t believe you didn’t put Office Space on there.

If action comedy is allowed I would include films like Men In Black which was very funny. If we are going Dark Comedies than the 90′s is by far superior because it produced some of the best Dark Comedies the world has ever seen. Though to be fair a lot of people choose to not see Dark Comedies because they are afraid to laugh at some of those jokes.

I’m a fair guy you left another great comedy off your 80′s list as well Hear no Evil See no evil… To be fair that was 89 though.

@DanielF – I would say this is one of the rare times I think you are ABSOLUTELY OFF YOUR ROCKER Imean if we were to have a poll and asked people to quickly name 10 comedies from teh 80’s adn then 10 comdies from teh 90’s I bet you my brother’s ;eft ear that people would struggle to name alll 10 from the 90’s. Hudge Ghostbusters fan as a kid and would buy the animated series if it came out. As for the director Ivan, Harold Ramis, or Ivan’s boy Jason Reitman because lets face it Juno and Thank You For Smoking are two of the funniest movies in the last 5 years.

I agree completely with the author, Paul Young, except I’d perhaps be a bit harsher on Ghostbusters 2.

I gotta say I was a child of the 80′s as well and wheather it be comedy, action, or drama I think all movies are better now. I thought the 80′s were fairly dull as far as comedy goes. I think the 90′s the 2000′s and pre 80′s were all better. Outside of the comedies from the last 15 years I would skip the 80′s aside from one or two gems and go to pre 80′s with some of Mel Brooks finniest works of art. To be honest I thought Ghostbusters was cool as a kid, but the first time I watched it as an adult I quickly realized it kind of sucked. The reason I liked it as a kid is because it’s totally geared toward children. I am not at all looking forward to seeing a third film. Not only are the first two poor films, but were gonna get a third one with really really old crusty old me. It’s odd I’ve always kind of liked Aykroyd and I love Bill, but ghostbusters was just kiddie stuff.
