FXX, a comedy-focused spinoff of the established FX, officially came into existence at 7 a.m. on September 2, 2013, and the first moving image ever shown on the network was an apt one: a video of Danny DeVito being “birthed” out of a leather couch and tumbling to the floor. The video was from the 2010 Christmas special of hit comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

FXX has proven a success, helped largely by reruns of The Simpsons, including 2013's Every Simpsons Ever marathon -- which has a sequel coming later this month -- and a strong slate of original shows like The League, You’re the Worst, and the terrific Man Seeking Woman. And although it started out on FX, the long-running It's Always Sunny has been a big part of FXX's success. Now, fans of both series have something to celebrate, as the network has announced when their new seasons will begin.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 12 and Man Seeking Woman season 3 will on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. In addition to the premiere dates, the network also announced some details about what The Gang will be up to in season 12:

"It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will premiere its 12th season on Wednesday, January 4 at 10 PM ET/PT on FXX. The Gang returns to Paddy’s Pub with Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dee (Kaitlin Olson) and Frank (Danny DeVito). This season, the gang goes to a waterpark, deals with a Wolf Cola PR nightmare, and actually spends a whole day tending bar! Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia was created by Rob McElhenney. He also serves as executive producer along with Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Michael Rotenberg, Nick Frenkel, Tom Lofaro, Scott Marder and David Hornsby. The show is produced by FX Productions."

Jay Baruchel and Sarah Gadon in Man Seeking Woman Season 2 Episode 1

As for Man Seeking Woman, FXX's statement said:

"Man Seeking Woman will premiere its 3rd season on Wednesday, January 4 at 10:30 PM ET/PT on FXX. Man Seeking Woman is back with a surreal new season about the life-and-death stakes of dating. “Josh Greenberg” (Jay Baruchel) has battled a lot in his quest for love (flesh-eating monsters, homicidal aliens). But this season will see him face his toughest challenge yet: a serious, long-term relationship. Together, Josh and Lucy (Katie Findlay) will take on anniversaries, merging friend groups, ruthless drug lords, friendly forest creatures, student loans and even God himself. In order to make it, they'll have to work together and learn to live their lives as a team. The series also stars Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show) as “Mike,” Josh’s confident and daring best friend; and Britt Lower (Unforgettable) as “Liz,” Josh’s intimidating older sister. Man Seeking Woman is based on Simon Rich’s book of short stories, The Last Girlfriend on Earth. Rich created the series and also serves as Executive Producer/Showrunner.  Jonathan Krisel, Andrew Singer and Lorne Michaels, and Broadway Video also serve as Executive Producers.  Man Seeking Woman is produced by FX Productions."

With the return of Always Sunny and Man Seeking Woman, FXX certainly has a strong comedy lineup set for 2017. And with FX coming off the success of Atlanta and Better Things, as well as readying season 2 of the Emmy Award-winning Basketsit would seem both networks are taking full advantage of the recent critical resurgence of the half-hour comedy.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 12 and Man Seeking Woman season 3 premiere January 4, 2017.
