Isaiah Mustafa is an ex-football player turned actor turned viral sensation with his role as the “Old Spice Guy”. While Mustafa’s popularity has grown by leaps and bounds, the acting roles being offered to him are still bit parts in TV shows like Chuck.

Mustafa would like his fans to help change that by supporting his bid to play the “Hero for Hire” Luke Cage. His plan appears to be working, because Marvel has put together this short video with Mustafa portraying Luke Cage that is 1 part Marvel vs. DC, 1 part stop motion animation and 3 parts “Old Spice Guy”. It all adds up to one awesome and manly video.

There are special guest appearances by M.O.D.O.K., Sugar Man, Beta Ray Bill and a hilarious cameo by Deadpool. The video consist mainly of Cage in the Avengers Tower mugging for the camera and using his catch phrase “Sweet Christmas!”

Check it out below:

The chances of Isaiah Mustafa actually landing the role of Luke Cage are pretty slim, but if Marvel gave Andrew Garfield the role of Peter Parker Mustafa for Luke Cage wouldn’t be the biggest surprise ever. Besides having some acting talent and comedic timing, Mustafa is wildly popular right now. Marvel wouldn’t be taking a very big risk by giving him a chance to play a third-tier superhero on the big screen.

One thing working in Mustafa’s favor: Marvel is considering playing short films of lesser-known characters before tentpole films like Thor, The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Even though Tyrese Gibson has expressed an interest in playing Luke Cage for several years, Mustafa’s current popularity trend could have him poised as the dark horse casting choice.

The last bit of news surrounding the Heroes for Hire movie came months ago when Marvel said they were in talks with a “notable Hollywood star” for the role of Luke Cage. It’s doubtful that Mustafa was the notable star Marvel was referring to, but since the only news related to Luke Cage since May is this video, maybe Marvel changed their mind or talks with ‘Mr. Notable’ broke down?

It doesn’t really matter because “I’m on a horse…and I have this hammer.” *Smug look at camera*

  1. hahaha, that guy is just too cool, he was pretty funny on Chuck.

  2. I really hope this isnt hinting at him beingcast as Luke Cage. Even though hes cool and everyone seems to like him, I can never picture him as Luke Cage. Michael Jai White FTW

  3. i hate his old spice comercials and i hated this.

reguarding what actor should play luke cage in a movie i know of any who really fit the role that are big names so i think it should be an unknown who is right for the part.

    • …Well, Isaiah Mustafa *is* an unknown, struggling actor.

      • he does not seem approperate for the part from what i have seen though.

i did say unknown and approperate.i can`t see the old spice guy as luke cage.

  4. OH…MY…FRICKING…GAWWWD!

    That was AWWWWWEEESSSSOOOOMMMMEEE!

  5. That was awesome but I’m just not sure if he fits the feel of Luke Cage, I always pictured Luke Cage as more of a brooding fellow to be honest, but then again I’ve hardly read anything with him in it so my point might just be moot.

    • luke cage isn`t a brooding guy nor a flippent spiderman personality.he is more on the serious side and like a determoned guy once he gets onto something.

  6. He should get the part just for making the “What the” video. That was cool… But I truely think that Michael Jai White should play Luke Cage.

And for Danny Rand/Iron Fist my vote goes to David Belle. The guy from tha parkour movie B-13.

  7. I’d wait for a trailer to judge this guy as Luke. I love the Old Spice commercials and given the names Marvel’s been throwing at us (with few misses) I’m willing to take it on faith. Michael Jai White? I dunno. Seems a little too old and I’ve never appreciated his acting chops. He can certainly kung some serious fu though!

    • when and if it gets made i hope luke cage doesn’t use Martel arts or any other formalized fighting style.luke cage used brute force.

  8. i have been a fan of luke cage since 1972 when he was introduced.i hope they don`t mess him up and /or change him too much.

  9. I give the dude my vote for Luke Cage. Ps. Sony cast Andrew Garfield. Not Marvel. And, that Spidertween movie is gonna blow ass.

  10. I’ve seen Michael Jai Whites name mentioned by many and I agree he would be a good choice but… [pause for effect]… Marvel night do better to go with the all unknowns cast angle and save a huge amount of money in casting that could be used elsewhere and possibly for the better.

As much as I’d like to see certain popular actors play the part of a beloved super hero, it is the ability of the actor to bring to life an existing and well known hero then the popularity of the actor that is most important. For example if I had to slect betwen an OK director with some big name actors or a great director or at least a perfect fit director like Faverau was for Iron Man with some lesser known or even unknowns I;d pick the later. I know that Michael Jai White isn;t exactly an A list star but hes known and recognized and I got a feeeling he’d try for more moeny then someone like this Mustafa would. An unknown is going to work cheap and very hard, brininging their A++ game to a role like this, one that could boost them up several pay grades.

  11. Sadly, that was better than a few of Marvel’s big budget movies.

  12. I’m just gonna throw up..it gets worse ad worse marvel ha literally gone to the toilet indeed>:(

  13. That was too funny!! He would be a great Luke Cage.

  14. That was funny but following the Old Spice commercial thing too much will make the joke old. Idk he could do it, but he would have to be serious too. And have whats the guys name….the dude who played Darth Mual, Toad and was in the Daredevil movie….Ray Parks as Iron Fist. Could be a good cast right there.

  15. The thing is we don’t really know what Isiah can do with serious material. Look what Robbin Williams did in “One Hour Photo” or “Insomnia,” Chris Nolan directed that by the way. You just can’t tell by one or two performances the man’s range or a directors ability to get a performance out of someone, hint hint Nolan and Snyder…

    • Whoops forgot an “A” there, sorry Isaiah. new that looked wrong I don’t know what’s come over me lately…

  16. They should give it to Terrence Howard to make up for screwing him out of War machine.

  17. Wesley Snipes would be good but he’s apparently going to jail for tax evasion.

  18. I’m sorry guy’s Michael Jai White is the only guy who could pull off Luke Cage and even the Black Panther. He has the body, the fighting skills, and the acrobatic skills to do this. He can keep it more real than any other actor out there.

  19. There is certainly a great deal to learn about this subject.
I really like all of the points you have made.

  20. Pretty component to content. I simply stumbled upon your weblog and
in accession capital to assert that I acquire actually enjoyed account your weblog posts.

Any way I will be subscribing for your feeds and even I fulfillment you get entry to
    constantly rapidly.

  21. Aw, this was an extremely good post. Finding the time and actual effort to generate a good
article… but what can I say… I put things off a whole lot
and don’t seem to get nearly anything done.

  22. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was curious what
all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?

I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% positive.
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
