Thomas says:

So Vic, did you ever look at the animated Iron Man movie?

Vic says:

Thomas,

Yes, I did. I just never got around to reviewing it. I thought it was ok, but not great. Better than the “Ultimate Avengers” animated movies, though.

Matt says:

Is there a real city called Downey in Cali or is that a little homage to Robert?

Vic says:

No doubt that is a shoutout to Robert Downey Jr, but there is a town outside of LA by that name.

Chris says:

One of the guys on the MySpace board (one of the few nice ones) works next to “Downey Studios” in Downey, CA; saying they are building sets for filming there. Check out downeystudios.com for more, they’re apparently using Bldg 290, home of the first Space Shuttle. I’m thinking ‘the laboratory/garage’ personally…

Hey all, I am a sergeant in the U.S. Army, and just had a comment about the two pictures above, labled “Small rocket or grenade launcher” and “Another shot of the same weapon.” These are actually pictures of a weapon formerly in use by the U.S. Armed forces. It is called a “TOW” [(T)ube Launched (O)ptically Tracked (W)ire Guided]Missile Launcher. This model can be mounted on the tripod shown in the pics or on a “Humvee” (HMMWV) More info on this weapon can be found on this website: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/tow.htm

Jerry,

Thanks for the clarification! I’ve updated the description to reflect your correction. :-)

I have a friend working on the set of this movie. The set shown in the pictures is outside a little town called Lone Pine in Ca. The rest of the movie is filmed in some hangers in Long Beach CA.
The town of Lone Pine is very small and is currently full of the crew working on this feature. Just drive down highway 395 and you can see about 25 humvees parked near the set. Its hard to miss.

Vic says:

Bongo, I’m confident in this one.

BTW, I love the comic strip on your site!

Vic

Bongotezz says:

Thanks Vic. The comic is coming along nicely and gets good responces. I cant wait to see what they do with Iron man. It’s gunna be great.

DeltaSS says:

All these pics were taken on Cerro Gordo Mine road about 20 miles East of Lone Pine. All the Hummers were parked at the Comfort Inn right on Hwy 395. There are several other sets in the Alabama Hills to the West and another down in Olancha.
