New ‘Iron Man 3′ Trailer Offers New Footage, Potential Plot Spoiler

China-based consumer electronics company TCL is a proud sponsor of Marvel’s Iron Man 3  – which is why they’ve been given the chance to premiere an exclusive new Iron Man 3 spot with new footage that fans will surely be eager to view.

The recent (and very impressive) full-length Iron Man 3 trailer chronicled Tony Stark’s unrest after his near-death in Avengers and his fall from grace at the hands of the nefarious Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). Among other highlights (like TCL TVs getting blown up), we got to see Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) call upon his own “Iron Legion” army of Iron Man suits – many of which we detailed in our Iron Man 3 armor guide.

Based on our own behind-the-scenes looks at the film, we’ve already informed you that Iron Man 3 is going to be a more serious look at Tony Stark’s character – while introducing a bold new interpretation of The Mandarin. (Sorry if you were hoping for the comic book stereotype version of the character – Marvel felt it more prudent to go in a new direction.)

This new spot basically sets up those two major plot-points, with a nice action-packed preview of what happens when the tech-titans collide (Hint: Air Force One and Tony’s Malibu mansion better have plenty of explosion insurance).

However, this new spot also further spoils a (semi-)big moment in the threequel: The seeming death of Tony’s bodyguard, Happy Hogan. Hogan has been famously portrayed onscreen by Iron Man 1&2 director Jon Favreau – and we even know that Happy could even get an armor made in his honor, to be featured as part of the Iron Legion:

Other than that, snippets of a battle-damaged and remorseful Iron Man, Guy Pearce’s evil scientist character and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) in peril are all familiar sights. The one bit of extra newness to note is Rhodey’s (Don Cheadle) panicked attempt at a phone call, in what seems like the moments before the big Air Force One attack sequence.

Iron Man 3 will be in theaters on May 3rd, 2o13.

  1. Not much of a spoiler. Cant wait regardless.

  2. I retract my statement. I thought the trailer had spoilers.. I actually didnt see the image below. WOW. So at least we know who dies. I thought it was going to be Pepper. But still. WOW

    • Ya know, the “spoiler” wasn’t on the first page of this article, so one could watch the trailer and not necessarily know what the “spoiler” was, and read the non-spoiler part of the article. Thanks to this comment, one now has an idea of what the spoiler is. It would be nice, for future reference, if you could maybe not spoil things in the comment section. Thanks.

  3. This was in the first trailer for IM3, so Rebanks is right, even though you didn’t realise it, not much of a spoiler

  4. the spoiler is the Rhodey’s wardrobe needs to be updated

  5. Okay maybe its just my personal opinion but ads on this site are steadily getting more and more obnoxious. To the point where sometimes I don’t even want to click on an article. The video ads reload every time I click the next slide of an article and the banner ads expand everywhere constantly. I know ads are money but seriously this is bull.

  6. First off, there is slight, though unlikely chance Happy could turn into the freak….. but again thats unlikey. And again I am curious about the fact that nothing has been leaked about ColdBlood or Firepower!

    • YES! That is exactly what I’ve been thinking.

  7. He’s still moving….. so in this footage, he’s still alive.

  8. This was in the first trailer, and yahoo had an article about it way long ago

  9. life model decoy? with an arc reactor in his chest?

  10. Him not Happy no more :(

  11. @ joeC: get an anti virus that blocks ads on websites, its awesome!

Also at what point do TRC TV’s get blown up? Strange bit of product placement?! 😀

  12. You can see stark dragging him in the snow at the end of the 1st trailer.

  13. I still think it is Pepper who gets killed.

  14. This looks like it could be as good if not better than the first one i certainly hope it is i can’ wait. Kingsley looks awesome as the Mandarin.

  15. I called happy dying months ago. lol

  16. Also in the TV spot you see the banner Stark Issues Threat. I wouldn’t think he would threaten prior to a reason for threatening.

Pepper is alive in that scene so is it possible that Hogan was the catalyst for the threat THEN Pepper dies because of the threat?

That would be cool but I think this is a way for Jon Favreau to disconnect himself from the franchise.

  17. soooo predictable

  18. Mark Ruffalo is wearing the Hulk Buster Armor! Now, that’s how you start a rumor.

  19. I called him dying since October, since the FIRST minute teaser got released. He’s dying. maybe. or gets seriously injured.
