[UPDATE: Scroll down for the newly-released Chinese trailer and Japanese poster.]

The new Iron Man 3 trailer reveals much more of the storyline behind Tony Stark’s latest adventure - much of which we’ve already dug up in our posts on the Iron Man 3 armor guide and Iron Legion poster breakdown.

Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is in a bit of a funk following his near-death experience in space at the climax of The Avengers – and despite new technologies that let him control his armor remotely by command, he’s still not ready for the assault by The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), a nefarious terrorist leader whose Machevellian schemes trace back to Tony’s initial near-death ordeal, as seen in Iron Man.

As viewed above, there is a going to be some major action in this threequel film – and seemingly a much better (and epic) story arc than we got in the lukewarm Iron Man 2. For fans who were not that impressed by the Iron Man 3 teaser trailer: the sight of Tony and Rhodey (Don Cheadle) summoning that Iron Man army – including the unofficial Hulk Buster design(!) – is probably going to be a better motivator to get you in the theater seats, no?

UPDATE: Check out the Chinese trailer below (via Comic Book Movie), which briefly highlights the roles played by Chinese actors Wang Xueqi and Fan Bingbing:

  1. 1:11. There’s our confirmation of the space armor :)

    • …And I guess at the end. I hope they don’t waste it. I happened to notice that Tony’s tackling a suit… they’re not doing the evil suit thing again are they?

      • I don’t think he is tackling the suit.
Someone else mentioned he is leaping onto/into his own suit as he needs to get out of there is a hurry.

        • I see what you mean. I didn’t notice that the back was opened.

      • Doesn’t it look like hes diving INTO it?

Which one he’s going into is what I am having trouble with…looks silver.

    • Or 2:23

  2. Oh #%€%. Can’t wait till it comes out.

  3. I have a theory now. I think Guy Pearce’s character gets a bit of spotlight in the movie. If you pause at 1:47 you see a what looks to be Aldrich Killan flipping Iron Man over. I think The Mandarin injects him with the Extremis Virus. And also at 0:48 he appears to look dazed and confused. And at 1:54 I think Aldrich Killan is trying the Extremis virus on test subjects. Thoughts?

    • Good theory Eleazar, I am curious as to what human is tossing Iron Man around and Killan with the extremis virus would be able to do that.

  4. Hey that HulkBuster armor is solid Blue. Maybe it’s not one of Tony’s suits?

  5. Am I the only on here who noticed and is sad about the fact that Jarvis dies in this movie?

    • JARVIS is a piece of (sophisticated) software; he cannot “die.”

    • JARVIS is a software that Tony has integrated into ALL of his technology. Yes, you mostly see him helping Tony out in the lab but he “lives” in everything tony builds. Meaning each Iron Man armor has the JARVIS software standard. At the end of the trailer you see dozens of Iron Man suits. So rest easy, JARVIS will probably be the one piloting all those suits, and in turn kicking the most a**

  6. I’m still not sure I like the idea of the Iron Legion being in this film; given the relatively short amount of time since the events of The Avengers, i find it stretching (even by suspension of disbelief) to believe Tony could have designed, created and amassed such a force.

    A couple of suits, I could believe…

  7. awesome trailer cannot wait

  8. Yey. Iron man 3 looks as good as the other two combined + Avengers wedged in there too..

    • Considering it’s pretty easy to outdo The Avengers, I’d say IM3 will be phenomenal. I never got goosebumps with The Avengers trailer like I did with this one and Avengers really wasn’t as good as other people think it is in my personal opinion so can’t wait for this movie.

  9. First time I saw the trailer.

    Loved it.

Will not nitpick about the attack on Stark’s Home. I cant suspend my belief that much…Wont do it.

  10. i just poop my paints

  11. Terrific trailer, shows you the real dark Iron Man movie. Let us hope the movie will do justice.

  12. “Do you want an empty life, or a meaningful death?”

  13. Fan bing-bing is in this?? I <3 her.

  14. I really wish i did not watch this trailer…. It is going to make the wait for the movie feel so much longer. I loved the first two iron man movie and the avengers. This trailer just made me want to see the movie a thousand times more

  15. anyone else realize that all Iron Man movies end with Tony fighting at NIGHT? where’s those day fights at. boss.
