When is Iron Man 3 Coming?

iron man 3 release date When is Iron Man 3 Coming?

With Iron Man 2 shaping up to kickstart the summer of 2010 as our most anticipated film of the year, Thor deep into production and The First Avenger: Captain America finally casting its hero in Chris Evans, what comes next?

We know The Avengers is the big plan for these heroes; To all meet-up in the most epic superhero film ever. But that’s not scheduled to hit theaters until 2012. Since Robert Downey Jr.’s second go as Tony Stark is already finishing up post-production, they’ve got a very long time before he’s needed on set to film a leading role in The Avengers. That leaves a lot of time to shoot the trilogy closing installment, Iron Man 3.

With Captain America shooting in June and working through this summer to hit a release date next summer, after Thor kicks off the season, we can expect our heroes to come together to shoot The Avengers sometime next year. Since Robert Downey Jr. has no current Marvel roles to shoot until then (he has Sherlock Holmes 2 to do though), he could be free and clear this fall to shoot another Iron Man movie with director Jon Favreau as they bask in the success of Iron Man 2.

Ed Douglas at Coming Soon picked up on an interesting tidbit of info from the Associated Press on an article about Downey’s upcoming comedy Due Date, co-starring Zach Galifianakis. In it, they mention what work they’re getting to next; For Galifianakis, it’s The Hangover 2 and for Robert Downey Jr., it’s reportedly Iron Man 3 this fall.

We know it’s coming, we just didn’t know the timing. If it does happen to shoot later this year, we can assume that Marvel’s plans of having two flicks per year will come to fruition and that 2012 will see The Avengers sharing the summer with Iron Man 3. It’s not surprising considering the two years between Iron Man 1 & 2.

I do wonder how much those two films will cross-over and when in the timeline Iron Man 3 will take place. We know both Iron Man and Iron Man 2 take place before The Incredible Hulk and Thor, but will the third installment be based before The Avengers if it comes out after that movie? That seems odd if it’s the case but if it’s the other way around, we can expect a bunch of major cameos. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Iron Man 3 take the big team-up movie’s place at the beginning of the summer in May and The Avengers open later that summer instead. At this point, it’s all just fun speculation.

Are we going to see Tony Stark take on the Mandarin in the third installment? Time will tell. Hint: Maybe he’ll be a villain set up in Iron Man 2?

  1. keep in mind they started pre-production on Iron Man 2 almost right after IM1. IM2 practically overlapped with Sherlock Holmes as far production time. Its 2 years later, and two years from now it will be 2012. It can be done and so far IM2 looks awesome!!!

  2. That's the best way to redeem some of the characters who sort of went down hill such as The Punisher and Blade, cameo them and to them redeem themselves, then make their individual movies again. Deadpool will not make a cameo appearance in any Marvel Studios movies because he is currently a 20Th Century Fox property.

  3. sorry about the typo, I meant cameo them in other character's movies to help them redeem themselves, then bring them back later for their own movie again.

  4. Starting the buzz

  5. Polling the comic book fans for their thoughts and ideas about what would make a good movie in an interesting idea worth seriously looking into, but there's the “mainstream” audience to consider, especially since the “mainstream” might not be too familiar with the Marvel Universe and the characters who inhabit it. A good Marvel movie should strike a balance by presenting a film which pleases both real comic readers and those who may never have picked up a comic book or who haven't picked up a comic book in years.

I think we'd all love to see quality win out over quantity, but since the movie studios are investing large amounts of money into a film and they want to see results as quickly as possible, they just go at it and hope they hit more than they miss. However, it would be nice if the studios would consider the audience and find out what we'd like to see (or not see) when it comes to a Marvel movie.

  7. There's definitely enough time. They can shoot this year or next and have it ready to go for 2012.

Look at Captain America for example. It's STARTING to shoot this June, it comes out next July.

  8. what is this author talking about??? its 2010! 2012 is not far away at all! Does he know how films are made??!? If Robert Downey and the gang will be filming iron man 3 to come out before Avengers that means the cast of iron man would have to be working on it NOW!!!! For it to come out next year! Why does there have to be a rush for Iron man, of why does it have to come out in 2011 or 2012? WTF?! Does that make sense? The Avengers movie would probably start preproduction sometime next year. That's not far away at all.. That's actually coming up on us pretty fast people! Before you know it they will be in post production and just waiting till the release date hits which would be in Summer/ middle of 2012… Robert Downey does not have a lot of time on his hands.. just about enough time to do another movie or two before he Chris Evans, Edward Norton etc start working on this. – Marvel better have a good story ready!

  9. Yeah you always have to consider the mainstream. But the same time, if you look at the sucessful box office comic book movies, the ones that were pretty close and respectful to the source material were sucessful. The crappy ones like DareDevil, Fantastic Four, or Electra, — even video game movies like StreetFighter and Chun Li, failed, cause they lost mainstream audiences and comic fan audiences. It lost the original appeal which warranted duplicating the original success in the first place! It's just common sense. You don't need spandex tights or whatnot but maintain the essence, elements, and recognize the icons! for example– Dr. Doom is Doom. Don't make him a playboy out of manhattan come on!

  10. but in an Avengers I think we shud see alot of the Marvel characters, dat would be amazing, u know not just the main big ones but I guess that wont happen

  11. @Wepz no they are not talking about IM3 coming out next year. They are talking about coming out in 2012, that's still two years from now dude, that is plenty of time. And like I said they already have the momentum going and Iron Man is'nt new to them anymore, they know what they're doing. RDJ is not going to want keep doing these Iron Man movies forever so why not get him to do it now if possible. I say its the best thing to do. IM3 would come out a couple of months before The Avengers, that same summer. Another way to lead into more easter eggs and right into The Avengers—straight from IM3, that's brilliant!!!

  12. Keep these Marvel Icon movies coming – I will see them all!

  13. Robert Downey Jr has Gravity to shoot in the Summer. Doesn't Thor open May 6.

  14. Avengers#1 Roster: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Giant-Man, Wasp, and Hulk. Black Widow and Hawkeye will more likely just be S.H.I.E.L.D agents for this one. Avengers #2: Black Widow and Hawkeye become members of the Avengers, addition of Black Panther.Avengers #3 new members Scarlet Witch,Vision and WonderMan. More than likely The Hulk will not be in Avengers #2 but may return for #3.

  15. Woah buddy, time to slow down and re-read the post.

Captain America is starting production in June. It will release next July. That's 13 months.

  16. A report came out last year that was taken down which referred to Marvel's desire to push production to 4 films a year. With Disney behind them and SO MANY in-development properties, I can see that happening after 2012 if The Avengers works out.

  17. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1300854/ if you go to this link you will see that the movie is supposed to come out in 2012 and marvel said that it will be most likely in may because iron man 1 and iron man 2 had a good outcome in that time.

  18. I am a very big fan of IRON MAN. I am having his both movies in original print and also having his lots of wallpapers. Now i am waiting for its third part. Hope so it will be again more fantastic than first two parts. GOOD LUCK FOR IRON MAM 3 TO ROBERT DOWNEY, MARVEL PICTURES AND WHOLE IRON MAN TEAM. Thank you.

  19. iam very excited to watch iron man 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
