Rebecca Hall Iron Man 3 Rebecca Hall Now Up For Lead Role in Iron Man 3

Two weeks ago, it looked as if Marvel Studios had landed another promising star to join the growing cast of Iron Man 3, but we found out yesterday that Oscar-nomintated Jessica Chastain simply couldn’t take the gig due to scheduling conflicts.

Chastain had reportedly beat out Diane Kruger, Gemma Arterton and Isla Fisher for the part, but it’s none of these names who Marvel Studios is in talks with now for the role. As we mentioned yesterday, director Shane Black needed to find a replacement quick with Iron Man 3 gearing up for production in the coming weeks, and they have, with Rebecca Hall.

Variety is reporting that Disney and Marvel Studios are in talks with the British actress take on the role described as a “sexy” and “smart” scientist. Hall had a starring role in Ben Affleck’s The Town two years ago and in last year’s The Awakening, but has made appearances in a large variety of high profile films including Frost/Nixon and The Prestige. She also co-stars alongside Bruce Willis in the comedy, Lay The Favorite, which played a the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

By all accounts, the story of Iron Man 3 is drawing heavily from that of Warren Ellis’ “Extremis” storyline from the comics, and the potential casting of Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin (or some variation of the character) and Guy Pearce as geneticist Aldrich Killian, lead us to believe that the female role up for grabs is for the character of Maya Hansen. Hansen is the scientist behind the Extremis tech who in the books, allies and helps out Tony Stark and eventually joins S.H.I.E.L.D..

She’s also a potential love interest for Tony Stark which will create some friction between Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). We’ll find out more soon, but the inclusion of Hansen could lead to some interesting relationships and ties to SHIELD in future movies. Hall is a great selection and she can pull off drama, emotion and intensity as we saw demonstrated intensely with The Town.

Iron Man 3 begins principal photography in May and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013. Thor 2 comes later that fall and Captain America 2 the following spring.

  1. Nice… The only movie I’ve seen her in was The Town – she was pretty good though.

    • watch ‘The Prestige’!

      such an awesome Nolan movie.

has wolverine, bruce wayne, alfred, and black widow in it…..haha

      • My favorite nolan movie

        • I’m ashamed to say I’ve actually never seen that one…
(I’ll see if I can rent it this weekend)

  2. I think he would be awesome in it!! Glad to see that Marvel has a lot of exciting projects still to come!!!
Check out this awesome Article we found on Marvel VS DC and the different approach they take with their films

    • Shameless promoting? Probably better to have someone check your info and grammar first before posting that here… it was fairly faulty. To say KB was a little constrained was an understatement. All the Marvel directors except Joss were really controlled. Also, I don’t know what you were reading, but Superman and Batman were never supposed to be in a movie together… at least not those two films.

  3. Lol I meant SHE would be awesome in it!!!

  4. Would have preferred Arterton.

  5. extremely happy with this casting choice. she was great in “The Town” and i think she really does look a lot like how I picture Dr. Maya Hansen.

I can’t wait for some more plot details. Especially, how Sir Ben Kingsley will be fitting in (i’m still betting Mandarin)…

think Guy Pearce will play Malan? (injecting himself?)

    • That would be freaking awesome.

  6. Yes please!

  7. man shes so hot id suck a c@ck to hook up with rebecca :)

    • u are so wrong :D

  8. She was the most attractive half-preg woman i have ever in Everything Must Go with Will Ferrell. (which is on Netflix, you shld watch it)

  9. Awesome casting she was great in the town and the prestige. I wonder if they’ll be going with two villains since they’re going with the Extremis storyline they should have Mallen and the Mandarin

  10. I finally recently caught up to Rebecca Hall in The Awakening.
I had previously seen her in The Town and The Prestige.
She is quite the fine actress and definitely sexy.

  11. Hmmmm… let’s see how she ‘cleans up’ first. Not impressed so far. ~ Stark

  12. A good choice for Maya Hansen. And, British actresses tend to have great sexy smart voices- it’s simply not part of their smart culture to use that dumbass Valley girl nasal upward-inflection that’s infected American women on every level. Nothing’s more laughable than a movie scientist played by some generic blond who sounds like a Kar-Crashian clone.

    • I couldn’t take Natalie Portman seriously as an astrophysicist in THOR (and that was partly due to her accent)
