Iron Man 3 Trailer Logo Iron Man 3 Post Credits Cameo Revealed? [Spoilers]

With multiple projects currently in development and so many still on the way, Marvel fans and moviegoers are always looking ahead and asking what’s next? Iron Man 3 isn’t even in theaters but fans want to know if Robert Downey Jr. will be back as Tony Stark in The Avengers two years from now.

With Iron Man 3 representing more of a standalone character story as well as the first chapter of Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the only glimpse into the future of Phase Two it will offer will come after the credits.

Rumors from almost a year ago indicated that Ant-Man may make a first appearance as a button sequence at the end of Iron Man 3 and the Edgar Wright’s recent tweets last week about shooting a scene for one of this year’s summer movies didn’t help erase the speculation. Throw in the fact that the Ant-Man footage screened recently in finished form, after first debuting during an Iron Man 3 panel, and was again teased in The Avengers box set, and an Ant-Man cameo is becoming a more realistic possibility.

More recently, toy designs of new space-capable armor – later made official – helped add credence to another rumor which had Stark possibly flying out of orbit to meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, offering another opportunity for Robert Downey Jr. to again do something different with the character down the road.

Thanks to the Iron Man 3 world press tour stop at Le Grand REX in Paris, France last night, we now have an idea of what fans will actually see if they sit tight at the conclusion of the threequel… [Spoilers ahead!]

An attendee of the Iron Man 3 Paris premiere offered this description to Latino-Review of the post-credits sequence:

“It starts with a close shot of Tony Stark on a couch talking about his various traumas, obviously he’s talking to someone, as if he was seeing a shrink, the tone of the scene is light and supposedly funny. Then we discover that the person he’s talking to is Bruce Banner/Mark Ruffalo, who fell asleep because of Tony’s boring story. Tony remarks that Banner has been sleeping during the most part of his story and yells at him, and Banner just mumbles and says “You know, I’m not that kind of doctor!” Then Tony recalls another memory and resumes his monologue, and then we see Banner starting to fall asleep again.”

Much like the shawarma scene at the very end of The Avengers – if the above is indeed an accurate description of what was shown during the Iron Man 3 credits - it’s clear Marvel Studios is aiming to continue offering little bits of fun and humor, not necessarily always relying on including teaser bits to setup another film.

That being said, it’s very possible that, like The Avengers there are two separate scenes shown at the end of the film. One after the top-billed cast and crew are listed during an animation, and another once the full credits roll. Don’t be surprised if there’s another, more  revealing tag scene during the credits. It could be held until the film hits theaters April 26th internationally and on May 3rd in North America.

At least this scene pays tribute to the relationship between Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Tony Stark in The Avengers, and the ending which saw them drive off together into the sunset.

Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black based off of his and Drew Pearce’s screenplay, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Stephanie Szostak, Jon Favreau, Rebecca Hall, William Sadler, James Badge Dale and the voice of Paul Bettany.

Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015 and Ant-Man on November 6, 2015.

  1. If that is indeed the post-credits scene then I am pleased, It’s going to be good to see Ruffalo return as Banner, even if it is only a cameo! :p

  2. I hope it’s true. The Science Buddies need to reunite!

  3. I had a strong feeling that at some point in this movie there would be a brief cameo by Ruffalo, whether it be him talking to Tony via web-cam or something of that nature.

  4. Can “I’m not that kind of Doctor” be a reference to Dr. Strange?

    • ooooo i like ur thinking!

    • I believe he means psychologist.

      • No…i think he means a psychiatrist.

        • That is some reaching, no?

          • yep.
and whats the f-in difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?!

            • Psychiatrist are specialty psychologists.

              • Psychiatrist can prescribe medicine while psychologist cannot usually. psychiatrist had a degree in medicine while psychologist has a doctoral degree in psychology so its 2 different things not as you say a just a specialty.

                • they both studied psychology at some point so they both stem and trists specialize(so its a specialty) while gists remain general, it doesnt even matter so why get so technical.
To me trists are a subset gists aimed more towards medical.

                  • yes, they may study psychology at some point but what im trying to point out is how you said “Psychiatrist are specialty psychologists.” when they are very different professions. Its not about getting, as you say “technical” but about not creating a false perception of something.

          • I’m not saying it wasn’t just that there’s a slight tiny possibility they were getting at that, most likely they just wanted a humorous scene to explain why Bruce Banner didn’t show up.

        • I thought he was a metaphysician?

    • I was thinking closer to Doc Sampson? Too far of a reach?

      • Obviously Tony is talking about Doctor Doom

    • No. He’s implying Stark is treating him like a psychologist/psychiatrist in which Banner is clearly not trained in.

  5. I would feel cheated out of my money if this was indeed the only post credit scene.

    • Thats kinda funny if thats really how u feel.

    • @Scrump_1

Me too man, me too. Here’s hoping there’s another one.

  6. Thats funny, but I wouldnt rule out there are two, this funny one and one that hints at one of the other films.
Maybe a mid-credits scene, but from now on theyll throw in a funny at the end of credits like the schwarma in avengers.

  7. Oh yeah big spoiler. Hopefully this isn’t as bad as IM2 and its obvious they are trying to piggy back off Dark Knight Rises with the whole fall and rise sequence. Maybe they can eat off of DC sucess with the gritty take on CBM’s but probably not and just remind us of Avengers aka a Kid Movie! lmao

    • You seriously think Marvel has to eat off off DC’s supposed success when they just made a billion dollar film? Yeah okay.

      • This.

I’m sure DC wishes they could piggyback off of their own success as well as the fanboys keep stressing that Marvel has. Hasn’t really worked out quite that well for them so far.

      • He’s name is Troll. He’s just trying to pull up the whole DC/Marvel rivalry.

        • LOL piggy back off TDKR with the whole “rise and fall” theme? You mean that theme that has been used since the beginning of storytelling thousands of years ago? Its like some people actually think TDKR was the first movie to do that! (And it certainly wasn’t the best movie to do that!)

    • @ TROLL

I’m sorry, but did you just say “piggy back off of Dark Knight Rises” and “eat off of DC sucess” in the same post?

      That is HILARIOUS!

Your screen name says it all!!!
      Thanks for stopping by!

    • If you think The Dark knight rises is any where near as good as the previous Bat films, then you are sadly mistaken. TDKR slapped the face of The Dark Knight, which is a much better film in every way. Iron Man and Avengers are better too!

    • the user name says troll, but the comment says child.

  8. I’m a bit disappointed, I guess I’ll actually leave when the movie is over. They should have put that scene in the beginning. My anticipation just dropped, such a disappointment.

    • thats a real good point if it is true.

  9. I hope they have two post credit scenes, Guardians of the galaxy need need the back up.

  10. Hope that’s not the only post credit scene. It sounds funny, I mean I can’t wait to see stark’s reaction when banner is falling asleep on him while he’s talking, but I think a lot of us are hoping for a little more Easter egg surprises. Maybe an ant man appearance or maybe one of the gotg shows up, but one way or another I’m staying in that theater until the entire credits are done.

  11. I’m really happy with this. Lol if this is the end credits scene but the mid credits scene is gotg then that would be awesome but I’m good with this. Excited!!

    Question for you rob,
Would this appearance count as contract appearance for ruffalo? cuz he signed a 6 film deal right?

    • I have a feeling if this scene description is real they may have just asked him if he wants to come in for a day and he was game. But that’s a good question.

      • @ Rob

I wondered the same thing. I dont thing they counted RDJ’s scene in the Hulk as one of his movies, in fact RDJ was uncredited in that movie.

      • I seriously doubt that less than 2 min cameo meets the contract requirements of a 6 movie deal.

        • That’s what I’m not sure about because I heard Sam L say in one interview the studio wouldn’t want to waste his 9-picture deal on cameos in every movie.

          • Then again, cameos might exactly be the reason the number is 6.

          • Yeah I think they are learning there lesson about the cameos because of the current situation with RDJ. We lost a movie with him because he showed up for the post credit scene The Incredible Hulk. Having said that, however, I’m secretly hoping there is a second post credit scene teasing Iron Man in GoG and RDJ has secretly already signed a new contract.

        • it counted for RDJ

      • They counted his appearance in HULK as one of his 5 picture deals.

So yes, it could easily be counted.

        • they dont counted his appeareance on Hulk, according to Downey and Marvel his deal was for 4 Movies not 5 (Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, The Avengers and Iron Man 39. so his apperance in Hulk doesnt count as part of Downey deal

          • oops i typo mistake i wrote 39 instead of 3. sorry

          • Oh okay cool inputs guys.
I’m intrested tk know for sure cuz I heard that same thing from Jackson rob. I wonder if he was just in town that day and they thought they’d ask. Pretty cool of him to do it just to do it.

If this is true. Which I hopeso.

  12. The fact that Latino-Review is still being used as a “source” is ridiculous. Yes, they have been right a few times but they are wrong way more than they are right. Please stop thinking these so-called reporters are credibile because they really aren’t anymore.

    • And if they’re right about this, what do you have to say?

      • You must not follow LR closely to see how often they are wrong. There is no credibility there anymore. And yes, they are right 1 our of every 10 times but that’s a terrible accuracy average.

      • oh they got 1/2000 correct…. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Latino-Review is very good at putting 1 + 1 together and formulating a valid hypothesis of what’s going to happen. They take what they have, apply logic… and then they give you what they call “scoops” which really turn out to be “educated guesses.”

      • Yes. You are correct!

      • We’ll find out with the Guardians thing at the end of Iron Man.

But they didn’t just guess the Iron Legion in IM3 9 months before it was official, nor the Guardians announcement at Comic-Con, or the Thanos appearance in Avengers, etc.

        • Rob, all of those were educated guesses, not wild predictions.

Shane Black over a year ago said he was following Extremis. All you have to do is look into that story arc and there you go- Iron Legion.

Seeing Thanos at the end of Avengers and knowledge about the “secret movie” announcement at the coming comic-con is enough fuel to give a guardians guess. If you recall, Latino-Review also stated that Marvel could be announcing Inhumans or Dr. Strange in that spot, and they later retracted that.

And as for the Thanos announcement before Avengers… they weren’t the only ones who noticed the Gauntlet featured at that year’s con.

    • Despite a few we’re-still-waiting-on bits about Justice League and the Fast 7 stuff, I think every Marvel scoop they’ve had has been correct about Iron Man, Avengers and Guardians.

The only one we don’t know about is Planet Hulk but that’s 2-4 yrs away.

  13. Breaking News: Mandarin is a ex CIA agent gone bad which is why he has a CAP tatoo on his neck.

  14. This sounds fun. I don’t think this is the only after credits scene. This sounds more like a mid credits scene to me. If Tony does infact fly off to space to find the Guardians, it would have to be the very last thing we see him doing, therfore making it the last scene after the credits.

    • i had the same thought but then again they may just refer to one of the guardians at the end and it might not really be a cameo… and if this is the case its most likely gonna be Peter Quill…Star-Lord!

      • @ MAK

That’s true, like showing Thor’s hammer, but never mentioning him by name. Whatever they do, I’m thinking it will be cool.

  15. Damn.

I was hoping to see Star-Lord’s SEXY helmet. Guess we may see what happens on the 26th.

  16. oh boy that’s awesome.

  17. now I’ve another reason to watch it’s first show..:D

  18. they should probably introduce GOTG in this post credit scene its the best oppertunity they have to promote that film. Thor and cap didnt make a ton of money the first time around, use your biggest seller to promate the film that is the most ambitious.

  19. This isn’t all that bad, I’m excited to see Banner in ONE MCU movie, even if it’s a cameo appearance, because think about it.. we won’t get to see Banner/Hulk until 2015!

This seems to be legit, I don’t think they’d add him in say GOTG, or CA:TWS, or even T:TDW.

    Think about it..

  20. I really hope this is true, cause I really dig the chemistry between the two smart guys (since we haven’t had Pym yet) in the group. In fact, this would add more reason for me to go watch this movie right away! Hahaha
I’ve read the whole complete leaked plot spoilers, and I must say… Banner is indeed probably one of the few people Tony could actually trust the most, so no surprise.

And I honestly don’t understand why some people found this disappointing. Sure, it’ll be awesome if we have a hint cameo to the next project(s), but it’s not like we don’t know what’s going to come next, right? All the next movies are already scheduled and announced in every news-site everywhere anyway. Kevin Feige himself told us that the end-credit thing are getting too predictable for him, so this might be one of the way for him to shake things up (though I seriously think he’s going to pull another ‘Shawarma’ scene for the US premiere here). Let’s just enjoy the movie and don’t expect too much. Hope the best, expect the worse… XD

  21. Referring to Doctor Strange possibly?

  22. Yawn….

  23. I wonder if Banner shows up anywhere else in the movie?

    • yeah…his name will be on the credits

      • Nice.

I’m talking about in the actually movie itself. That would be very cool. Total speculation on my part however.

        • haha… i kid, i kid. I doubt it will be anywhere else besides post credits considering how jam packed it is already.

        • But you know the first thing someone would complain about is: “Well if Banner is just kinda hanging around, why doesn’t Tony just ask him for help?” To include him briefly in the beginning or middle of the movie would mean they’d have to do something real creative and satisfying to tip-toe around that.

Honestly, same deal with having him in the post credits scene. Are we just suppose to say: “what the heck? has he just been hanging around the whole time throughout this whole movie and done nothing nor shown his face till now?” What would the context be for all of that?

  24. well since The Avengers had the big post credits scene during the middle and had the funny one at the end, they might do the same here. They might have the funny bruce banner at the end and maybe have guardians of the galaxy in the middle hopefully

    • I hope so!

  25. I’m in the same mind set of other’s hoping that this won’t be the only after credits scene or maybe even something totally different. Cause I really want to wait till the end and ‘that’ being the only thing I’d see, a little disappointed

  26. there will be two i am v100000000000000% positive this is funny but we deserve better just like avengers had two this WILL have the same as well

  27. Man I hope if this is true that this will be one of two post credits stingers. Honestly this scene would sound better in the beginning of the movie before any of the action takes off. I really wanted the GotG one with Tony taking off into space in the Sub Orbital armor to meet Star-Lord. Still hope the GotG is real it sounded so good and made sense logically (Iron Man going into space after what happened in Avengers, and tease the GotG).

  28. Regarding the army of suits, me and my brother were discussing how that would affect Avengers 2. If he still has all those controlled suits who needs the Avengers, right? What I think will happen is 2 things:
    1. Most of the suits are destroyed. The suits I think won’t be destroyed are the ones that have been advertised in promo stuff. After all Stark still needs a badass Hall of Armors to show off :)

    2. The technology allowing Tony to control all of the suits (Extremis/microchip) is deactivated because Stark considers it “too much power for one man” or “too dangerous if in the wrong hands.” Something along those lines.

    • I think #2 but for reasons we don’t know yet.

  29. Please tell me I’m not the only one who would love a Hulk/Iron Man movie.
