‘Iron Man 3′ Gets Early IMAX 3D Release; Toys Showcase New Armor Designs

One of the most important movie geek questions for 2013 is whether or not Marvel Studios can build on its post-Avengers momentum with this next round of solo character films, and Iron Man 3 has the distinct (honor? Challenge?) of being the first guinea pig out of the pen.

Never one to hedge their bets, Marvel Studios is taking some additional steps to make sure their flagship solo character franchise sees some good returns at the box office, by releasing the film early, exclusively in IMAX 3D.

Check the choice excerpts from the press release issued by Disney/Marvel:

IMAX Corporation and MarvelEntertainment - a division of The Walt Disney Company - today announced that Marvel’s Iron Man 3™, the latest installment of the film franchise that has grossed more than $1.2 billion at the global box office, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format and released to IMAX® theaters internationally starting April 25 and domestically on May 3.

The IMAX 3D release of Marvel’s Iron Man 3 will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technologyicon1 Iron Man 3 Gets Early IMAX 3D Release; Toys Showcase New Armor Designs. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie. You can learn more about Marvel’s Iron Man 3 by visiting Marvel’s official site.

As noted in the release, it will only be international audiences who benefit from this April 25th IMAX release; U.S. moviegoers still have to wait until Iron Man reaches our shores on May 3rd.  For those still unaware about what the film is all about:

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

  1. I hope it releases on April 25th in non-IMAX because there isn’t an IMAX screen anywhere near me.

  2. I am actually morep issed that this is being post converted into 3d then a week early release date. I thought disney was going to be nice enough to NOT shove more 3D movies down our throats.

    • hey it’s DI$NEY what do you expect.

    • Are you kidding me,this is Disney were talking about here! What makes you think they would stop w/ the 3D, in fact I forsee it not stopping anytime soon w/ Disney

  3. Not bad looking toys, but I am waiting for the 2D release anyways. Now if they would just release some real juicy tidbits, like the updated designs of FirePower(I hope they did the original justice, it was big and bulky, but extremely powerful, however unlike whiplash and ironmonger, it was never destroyed), though admitedly I want to see the Rings in action(I hope they get some action)

  4. Has anyone on this website made the call that the snow is IM3 is from Malekith smashing the Casket of Ancient Winters in Thor: The Dark World?
If not I call it :)

    • i was thinking that stark was just in a cold region on the globe :P

      • When Malekith smashed the casket, it caused a supernatural winter over the entire earth.

  5. Am I the only one who doesn´t see any newsworthy things on this article? Except for the four pics of toys?

    • Wait… Four pics of toys was newsworthy?

      • Well, It was newsworthy enough to get a press release…

    • We found out IM3 will get an earlier release date in international markets…
Much like what happened last year with The Avengers.

  7. seeing this in imax 3d opening day ftw

  8. Sometimes I’m happy to be in Europe! :D

  9. again with the Europeans getting an early release on an american film? oh well, maybe we (the USA) will get another extra post-credit scene like with the avengers.

    • and i certainly mean no disrespect to my pals across the pond ;)

  10. Wow, Iron Man 3 at Imax is great. Just seen world premier at 12.05 (9AM on 23rg EST) on 24th April SM Lanang Davao Philippines. 3 D works well

  11. I saw the Iron Man 3 film in 3D yesterday.

Some of the pre-movie trailers had better 3D effect than Iron Man 3 3D.
Throughout the first 30 minutes I was so distracted by how BAD the 3D effect was that it seriously detracted from my ability to enjoy the film. I left shortly after 30 minutes had played and asked for and got a refund (thanks, as I had passed the 30 minute refund limit).

I decided I would enjoy the film more in 2D.

Do movies converted to 3D really rake in enough money and produce enough viewer satisfaction that they are still viable over 2D? I think the time will soon come when enough viewers will have wised up to this trick and they will stay away from 2D to 3D converted films.

I look forward to seeing Iron man 3 in 2D.
