When Marvel Studios and Disney announced the release date for Iron Man 3 on home video and listed its special features there was a noticeable absence in it not listing any original content, specifically a Marvel One-Shot short film. The studio did however, tease that it would feature "more" and rumors and reports indicated that Hayley Atwell had shot a short titled Agent Carter and that it would be attached to Iron Man 3 and appearing at Comic-Con.

We had been told by Louis D’Esposito (Director, Marvel Co-President) back when he directed the Item 47 for The Avengers on home video that he and Marvel were already working on at least two more shorts and star Atwell teased many months ago that she shot something for Marvel for Comic-Con. It's here now and it is officially coming with Iron Man 3 on Blu-ray.

EW released official artwork and stills for Agent Carter leading up to its Comic-Con debut:

The short follows Atwell's British agent Peggy Carter still serving the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) after the events of Steve Rogers took an ocean dive at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger. Dominic Cooper returns as Tony Stark's dad and the short serves as a bridge story between Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so the timing couldn't be better. Director Louis D’Esposito talks about the speedy production of Agent Carter:

"First of all it's a period piece. You have three fight scenes as opposed to Item 47, where we just had basically one action scene. We had five days – one more day than we did on Item 47 but I think it's double in size. And also the visual style of it, that requires time. So there was pressure on us. I have people looking over my shoulder, looking at the watch saying, 'Come on, you're costing us a lot of money!'"

And on what the short is about:

"It's a year since Cap plunged into the ocean. And in our mind, we said there’s a few SSR offices. If you want to relate it to now, it's like the OSS, the precursor to the CIA. The SSR is the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D. There’s some satellite offices in New York and right now their primary concern is getting Zodiac."

The mysterious Zodiac is something bad, something the villains are protecting. There will be a few other surprise cameos as well and D'Esposito hinted that they are considering including superheroes in future Marvel One-Shots.
