It’s been a while since we’ve given you guys an update on Iron Man 2, so here’s a little “catch up” for you…
First up is Scarlett Johansson addressing rumors about her physique and the fact that she supposedly has to lose 14 pounds to get into “superhero shape.” She’s not exactly “Twiggy” and leans more towards the voluptuous, but she’s by no means overweight:
“Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. I’m a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot. I’m frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there.”
She also gave away what seems to be a hint that the movie version of the her Black Widow character will indeed be donning an outfit very close to the comic book version of the character:
“While training for an upcoming film, I’ve come to this conclusion: chin-ups are near impossible and lunges suck. There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit.”
And then we have some info from Collider.com based on a chat they had with Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. He said they’re already thinking about the San Diego Comic-Con as far as a presentation for Iron Man 2 and that of course they have something cool planned for the audience. Also Garry Shandling will be playing a U.S. Senator in the movie, [...minor spoiler ahead...] who is demanding that the Iron Man tech be turned over to the government.
He also said the suit has been improved for the movie (it’s “more ergonomic” whatever that means) and that the movie is “artistic and risky:”
“The set pieces have to do with things that aren’t your typical like bad guy conflict. The relationships are very complex and hilarious. The motivations Tony has and why he turns around and does things has completely to do with his own internal processes and it really is, I think, as much as we tried to in the first one really see behind the façade of this kind of storytelling. We really, I think, leaving ourselves open to…we’re kind of trying to tell a story about how a dysfunctional family saves life on Earth as we know it.”
For more, including his thoughts on Mickey Rourke and how he (Downey Jr.) is taking this movie more seriously than any film he’s done before, header over to Collider.
Two more people have been confirmed for the cast according to /Film: Kate Mara and Clark Gregg. Clark played Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. and it is unknown what role hot babe Kate Mara will be playing.
Finally, on Twitter Jon Favreau continues to deliver micro-updates of what’s going on here and there on the set. There are such illuminating updates as:
“Sitting in Stark’s foyer waiting for the next set up.”
“Shooting in the workshop with Rhodey and Tony.”
“Shooting a scene with John Slattery.”
“Scarlett and Downey in Stark manor.”
I jest – it’s cool to have Favs updating his 52,000+ followers on Twitter – and I vastly prefer it to the MySpace updates during the first film.
And that, my friends, brings you up to date on the awesomeness that will (hopefully) be Iron Man 2.
