It’s been a while since we’ve given you guys an update on Iron Man 2, so here’s a little “catch up” for you…

First up is Scarlett Johansson addressing rumors about her physique and the fact that she supposedly has to lose 14 pounds to get into “superhero shape.” She’s not exactly “Twiggy” and leans more towards the voluptuous, but she’s by no means overweight:

“Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. I’m a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot. I’m frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there.”

She also gave away what seems to be a hint that the movie version of the her Black Widow character will indeed be donning an outfit very close to the comic book version of the character:

“While training for an upcoming film, I’ve come to this conclusion: chin-ups are near impossible and lunges suck. There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit.”

If you’re not familiar with the comic book character, click here to see what the Black Widow looks like. And head over to Coventry Telegraph for more from Scarlett.

And then we have some info from based on a chat they had with Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. He said they’re already thinking about the San Diego Comic-Con as far as a presentation for Iron Man 2 and that of course they have something cool planned for the audience. Also Garry Shandling will be playing a U.S. Senator in the movie, […minor spoiler ahead…] who is demanding that the Iron Man tech be turned over to the government.

He also said the suit has been improved for the movie (it’s “more ergonomic” whatever that means) and that the movie is “artistic and risky:”

“The set pieces have to do with things that aren’t your typical like bad guy conflict. The relationships are very complex and hilarious. The motivations Tony has and why he turns around and does things has completely to do with his own internal processes and it really is, I think, as much as we tried to in the first one really see behind the fa├žade of this kind of storytelling. We really, I think, leaving ourselves open to…we’re kind of trying to tell a story about how a dysfunctional family saves life on Earth as we know it.”

For more, including his thoughts on Mickey Rourke and how he (Downey Jr.) is taking this movie more seriously than any film he’s done before, header over to Collider.

Two more people have been confirmed for the cast according to /Film: Kate Mara and Clark Gregg. Clark played Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. and it is unknown what role hot babe Kate Mara will be playing.

Finally, on Twitter Jon Favreau continues to deliver micro-updates of what’s going on here and there on the set. There are such illuminating updates as:

“Sitting in Stark’s foyer waiting for the next set up.”

“Shooting in the workshop with Rhodey and Tony.”

“Shooting a scene with John Slattery.”

“Scarlett and Downey in Stark manor.”

I jest – it’s cool to have Favs updating his 52,000+ followers on Twitter – and I vastly prefer it to the MySpace updates during the first film.

And that, my friends, brings you up to date on the awesomeness that will (hopefully) be Iron Man 2.

  1. damn, i cant wait for this film

  2. I’m glad to hear that things are going well on this movie and I am excited to see it. I’m still not sold on Johannson as Black Widow, but I trust Favs in that department. So far it sounds like it’s going to be as much fun as the last one.

  3. Giggity, giggity!

  4. im not gonna jump on the “hate scarlet johannson as black widow” bandwagon b/c i did that same thing when ledger(RIP) was cast as the joker and “ate my words”

  5. Oh em gee…!!! Red headed and in a latex suit… Right now i could care less about her performance… Movie is going to be good and eye candy in my book is always a plus. Feel like cartman when he coudn’t wait for the nintendo wii… Freeze me till that movie comes out… Lol.

  6. Nice Update Vic!

  7. @Adrian

Yeah, I know what you mean. This quote made me a wee bit nervous as well:

“The relationships are very complex and hilarious”

  8. @Vic
Geess,(shiver up spine) sounds like both ‘Fantastic Four’ franchise, and sadly that not good. Got say,Vic, you had the first concept armor art for the Ironman film and that how I found Screenrant. It would be depressing to see terribly made Ironman film reported here by you(who’s also a huge IM fanboy),lol. Just hope the success of the first film doesn’t doom the franchise…

  9. I wouldn’t take RDJ’s words too seriously. I’ve watched many of his interviews, and he NEVER really makes sense…

  10. OMG, what the hell is the point of this stupid spam??? Can we ban this Serge G person, like his IP or something? Seriously, Johansson’s name cannot even be brought up without that stupid nonsensical message being posted…

  11. Dear Ken J please be polite!
    Thank you!

  12. And here we go again…

  13. Kate Mara is awesome i think even her voice sound like Shakira.
