Everything is looking on the up and up for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 and today we have a round-up of news items which feature two of the actors hyping up the film even more and a brand new image for the movie.

Don Cheadle, the new man behind Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the Iron Man franchise spoke with MTV about working with Jon Favreau on set and what their goals were this time around.

“You know, [topping the last film] wasn’t really ever the discussion… We never said, ‘How do we beat it?’ in my opinion. We just said, ‘How do we take what happened in the first film and pay it off now in the second film and really explore what it means now for a character to be going around as an actual super hero that everybody knows.’”

“The mask is off… [Iron Man] is like, ‘It’s me,’ and now what does that really mean?”

In other Iron Man news, the French website, has a brand new photo of Sam Rockwell in Iron Man 2 as Tony Stark’s rival, Justin Hammer. It’s nothing special, but here it is:

In the footage we were treated to at the San Diego Comic-Con IM2 panel, Hammer works with Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes character to supply with him weapons for the War Machine suit.

As for the new villain of the franchise, Mickey Rourke, who’s playing Whiplash in Iron Man 2, spoke with reporters yesterday at the Sarajevo Film Festival and talked about how grateful he is for where is career and life is now, taking full blame for ruining it years earlier. He then touched on Iron Man 2 and talked about his age affecting him to the point where he’d not do a sequel to The Wrestler, a movie that he said was by far his most difficult due to the physicality of it.

“I’m not 20 years old any more and when they throw your ass down, something is gonna hurt… My back would go out, my knee would go out. I had three MRIs in the first two months. If they would say they want to make Part 2, I would say, ‘No, thank you.’”

And on Iron Man 2, he promises it will “be better than Iron Man 1, that I can guarantee you.”

If you missed it, take a look at what Rourke may look like in Whiplash armor and check out Scarlett Johansson talking about the future of her character, Black Widow.

With an amazing cast, a great director and the best studio for the job, I’m excited for this movie and I can’t wait till next summer for it.

What are you feelings on Iron Man 2 and its new cast members?

Iron Man 2 opens May 7, 2010.

  1. Rockwell will do a great job as always.

When do we get a trailer?

  2. Although I love this stuff and can’t wait, I’m concerned with the amount of info they are pouring out so soon. This film is still around 9 months away. At the rate they are releasing snippets and info, there will be nothing left by January. We’ve seen films go through this problem before, and it’s fun, and builds a lot of buzz, but these studios need to relax and pull the reigns a bit.

  3. I’m getting all worked up into a frothy lather (nice mental image for ya) in anticipation for this.

  4. @Mike

I agree, I’d like to be surprised when it comes to this film. I guess though, even after getting completely sick of the GI Joe trailers and tv spots, I loved the movie.

I hope they quit pouring out so much info and photos. Yeah, it’s nice to see their suits and everything but leave a little to the imagination! Anymore now days, it’s the suspense of not knowing bout the film that makes it 100 times better.

  5. @pumpkin-king

I agree about GI Joe but I would add I loved the movie DESPITE the trailer.

  6. Everyone says G.I. Joe Sucked is foolish the movie was good. I really enjoyed it some of you should really try getting a girlfriend instead of looking for a movie to change your lives and give you drive and new direction on meeting women. LOL

  7. Who was the lamo reporter that asked Rourke about a sequel to The Wrestler? Did ya see the movie moron?

  8. @790

It doesn’t seem as thought he was answering a question about a sequel. It was just him describing how hard it was on his body and saying he wouldn’t go through that again.

  9. I wouldn’t get my hopes up about them not releasing a lot of information and trailers on Iron Man 2.

That pretty much helped the first movie succeed the way it did the first time around – it got so much hype and, how about that, actually met the hype for the most part. I’m sure they will do the same for Iron Man 2, just to make sure the out-of-loop people (ya know, the ones who aren’t rabid comic book or superhero movie fans like most of us here are) are aware of it coming out soon.

That being said, I think this is a great promotion of Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. I had my doubts about him in the role, but now they have been eradicated with this picture. He truly does look the part.

  10. @Phil G

Yeah – a couple of weeks before the first film came out I actually stopped putting up new clips and pics even though they continued to be released. I thought they put too much content out there and it did detract from seeing the film for the first time a bit.

  11. I am over the moon about Rockwell being in this (no pun intended) RDJ was such a wise move but Gwyneth?! Yawn. She is the epitome of all things bland and boring. Mind you had she made somewhat of an impact or Iron Man she might have actually drawn some attention away from RDJ (although i strongly doubt it.

Who else is excited about Sam Rockwell being in IM2?
