Olivia Munn Re-Cast in ‘Iron Man 2′

It seems G4 host Olivia Munn has curried no small amount of favor with the Geek Gods, as Complex reports that after her role was cut from Iron Man 2 due to a tonal shift, Jon Favreau called her back into re-shoots as a completely different character.

Check out what Munn had to say:

“Jon Favreau called and was like, ‘I’ve got good news and bad news: This is what’s happening in editing but we all really like you.’ Marvel and Jon had to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included.”

Munn describes her initial participation as being “lighthearted and comedic,” and was told that the editing process had proved they were making a darker film than originally anticipated. I don’t know if this makes anyone else significantly more excited for Iron Man 2, or if that’s just me, but I find this to be welcome news – even though I’d already been anticipating a darker movie than the first. Confirmation is always nice.

So Olivia Munn beats Chris Evans (aka Captain America) to the ‘portraying two Marvel movie characters’ punch. The teasing bit is, we don’t know who she’s playing!

Knowing Kate Mara (We Are Marshall) has a cameo in the film (but not as long-term Stark girlfriend, Bethany Cabe), has presented fans with puzzle enough. Hearing that a character that lent itself to the lighter side has been cut and replaced by one that doesn’t, is going to generate a whole new set of flowcharts.

At least Munn seems to realize how fortunate she is – she’s not just in Iron Man 2, she gets to be in Iron man 2 twice! Even if the first role was cut, she still had the experience of playing a Marvel character and hanging out on that set - twice.

When asked what she would have done if her role had been left on the cutting room floor, Munn replied, “I would’ve started crying.” No one would have blamed you, Olivia, you lucky duck.

So let the speculation begin: Who do you think Olivia is playing in Iron Man 2? Which character do you suspect got cut?

Iron Man 2 comes out May 7th.

Oh great this follows the traditional 'dark' sequel route. Fantastic. Part of the first movies appeal was the joviality and lightness, I feel making it to dark could ruin this sequel.
Although thats not really the impression I got from the trailers so far.

Maybe one day someone will make a lighter sequel, now that would be a big hollywood shocker.

    @DrSamBeckett

    I agree to a point.

As long as the joviality and lightness doesn't take away from the mature realism associated with MARVEL and become a deliberately exaggerated camp cringe fest. :-)

They're the sort of super hero films I never ever want to see again.

Don't know much about Stephanie Szostak, but from photos I've seen, she kind of reminds me of Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp.

Does anyone know more about her? I vaguely remember her from “The Devil Wears Prada” but that's all.

I couldn't find her age either and I've been searching a few websites. Any thoughts or am I just fantasizing?

Oh I agree there, I have no wish to see anything like the older marvel monstrosities but a film doesnt have to be dark to be mature.

In my opinion a movie can take this dark gritty realism too far and forgets it is meant to be a comic book movie and therefore is meant to be fun and enjoyable.

“Dark” is the in word now adays. Dark can mean so many things it is not even funny. I can think of one that fits Tony real well and is a great story line. His alcoholism.

While it may be kind of humorous at first there is nothing funny about a drunk man in a mutibillion dollar armed to the teeth body tank.

I can also think of a lot of comics in general that were dark and gritty that were not meant to be fun and enjoyable.

the heroes are just people. (cept for Supes he is an Alien) They have high low fun happy dark etc roller coaster rides. That is what makes the movie. Along with nice fight scenes. :D

What do ya mean? I think she could pull off Madame Masque. Just not a bad guy just yet, cuz there's already a whole bunch in this movie.

Turns out she’s a nobody reporter with 10 seconds of screen time.

Her career ended before it got off the ground.
