Straight from the floor of the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con Screen Rant gives you your first look at the new, redesigned armor from Iron Man 2. Above is a shot of the “Hall of Armors” display at the Marvel kiosk highlighting the Mark I, II and III armors – plus a fourth one. These were life sized and people were able to get within a few feet of them.

While the Mark III armor in the image above is battle damaged, being a hard core Iron Man fan I saw the differences between that armor and the new one on the far right immediately. Check out the image below for a comparison between the two (sorry about the fuzziness of the current armor on the left):

Changes include a more downward-angled abdominal area, more angular bicep pieces, redesigned thigh armor (including increased gold area), redesigned gauntlets, fuller epaulets (shoulder area) and slimmer boots. The changes are subtle but they definitely make the new suit look a bit sleeker and more advanced.

Check out a close up look at the new (Mark IV?) armor:

So what do you think about Tony Stark’s new duds?

  1. SWEEETT!!!!!

  2. So cool! I can’t wait for this film to come out!

  3. Am I wrong to say it essentially looks the same as what I remember from the first film? It’s red and gold…with glowing eyes…looks nearly identical to me.

  4. The red on the suit on the left if darker than the other and the chest area is bulkier.

  5. I aw a sports car that was red and gold and had glowing headlights. It looked exactly like iron man driving down the street because the colors were the same…

    :-D

Anyway, can’t wait for some footage!

  6. Absolutely awesome!

It looks like they have combined the best features of the Mark II(which is my favorite)and the Mark III.

I can’t wait to see War Machine!!!!

  7. I myself am not even worried about the suit but on how the story will play out now with everybody knowing that stark is iron man…

  8. I’m more worried about the amount of villians in this film…we got Whiplash, Black Widow, and I also heard that Mandarin is gonna be in this film as well.

  9. Heres a new pic of Paltrow from the film:

  10. Where is the trailer dangit?

  11. Liking that a lot! I always thought he looked a bit clunky below the waist in the first film.

  12. Iron man’s got Abs!

  13. Great coverage, from Screen Rant! Keep it coming!!

  14. As long as they don’t give him nipples (Batman & Robin), I’ll be happy.

  15. Damn.
I didnt go to the Marvel Kiosk.
I went to the Paramount home entertainment booth.
I will have to catch it when I go back.

  16. Looks awesome. I think they increased the cod piece. I hope they weren’t trying overcompensate for something. ;)

  17. this suit is far more better than the mark 3 and i loved that one. I think im2 will better than the first.

  18. Looks amazing. I can’t wait to take my own pictures when I get there!!!

IM2 is going to be huge,,,!!!

  19. I think if I could be granted three wishes, one would be a fully functional and wearable Iron Man armor with unlimited ammo and unlimited power, lol.

  20. With that much power Ken J, you would become a super villain. I have no doubt!!! 8-)

  21. Couldn’t they give me one of those suits? It would look much better in my living room that in that floor, LOL!

  22. Nah, too much work, I’m too lazy to be a villain, all the constant displaying of my power, coming up with a diabolical laugh, the real estate required for my lair, interviewing and hiring minions and henchmen… Way too stressful… lol

Although maybe flying to Iraq or Afghanistan and taking out insurgents without much effort might prove entertaining enough for me to take the time to do it. Not to mention, part of the wish is that the suit is fully climate controlled so I won’t even break a sweat… :-D

  23. Amazing, “movies is magic”

  24. Vic, if you get a chance, ask Jon how much it cost to make the Mark IV suit and how many of them they have on hand.

  25. Looks almost the same…suit was great in the first and I am sure it will be great in the 2nd….really looking forward to this sequel!

  26. sweet cant wait to see what the WAR MACHINE armor looks like.

  27. SO, did Tony rebuild the Mark I? it was in Stane’s possession at the end of the first movie. If you watch the scene where Iron Monger chases Pepper down the corridor, you catch a quick glimpse of him destroying it in his rampage…

I must have watched the movie on DVD about 10 times before I caught that. :D

  28. Yeah, subtle changes – like design enhancements, not an overhaul. REALLY looking forward to the panel later today. :)

    Vic

  29. my questions and comments are about the IRONMAN2 movie. my personal opinion, i think the perfect person to play WAR MACHINCE is. Micheal Jai White (Spawn). reason. his the right physical size. aswell as the rough voice and seriousness. and he could pull of the buff intelligent roll. i just think he’d be the perfect guy. and will there be more armours for Stark to choose from. for the type of conditions like in the cartoons. will this suite be space capable? will it have better weaponry?
