Hollywood has a lot of new digital 3D projects on deck, most notably James Cameron’s highly-anticipated film, Avatar. While films like Avatar are being shot in digital 3D from the start, older films are also entering the third dimension – case in point being Disney’s upcoming Toy Story/Toy Story 2 double feature, which will be showing in limited engagement this Fall.
Well, AICN is exclusively reporting that Iron Man 2 has landed somewhere in the middle ground of old/new 3D: a new movie shot with regular film that is being considered for 3D conversion before its release.
Oh, and did I mention that Iron Man 1 might be getting the 3D treatment as well?

So before we get into the details of Iron Man 2 possibly being converted to 3D, we need to rewind the clocks a bit, back to almost exactly a year ago, when we first reported that Iron Man 2 might be filmed in 3D/Imax. Our own Vic Holtreman (a serious Iron Man fanboy) was pretty psyched about the notion…which unfortunately didn’t pan out by the time IM2 started its principal shoot.
Reasons for Favreau foregoing the 3D/IMAX approach reportedly included the fact that his cinematographer, Matthew Libatique, prefers to shoot on film (modern 3D uses digital filming techniques) and the fact that the process would add too much expense to the budget. Rather than try an force the issue, Favreau opted to look ahead, planning for Iron Man 3 to get the 3D/IMAX treatment.
Jump back to the here and now, and AICN is reporting that Marvel and Paramount (and now Disney?) are going bananas over a one-minute demo clip of Iron Man 2 that has been converted into 3D. The clip was apparently so impressive that the studio has allegedly reached out to three different companies specializing in 3D conversion, to see if it isn’t worth their time and money to convert all of IM2 into a 3D format. AICN’s same source on this is also reporting that the studio is simultaneously mulling over whether or not to convert the original Iron Man into 3D as well, to serve as a 3D theatrical pre-release/promo for Iron Man 2 in 3D.
Personally, I think getting BOTH Iron Man films in 3D would be awesome, and I know that Vic would probably curse my name forever if I were to say anything less. But why would I? This WOULD be pretty awesome – especially if they offered moviegoers the one-two punch of heading back to the theater to enjoy Iron Man all over again, followed closely by the sublime experience of Iron Man 2 in 3D. I would happily shell-out (get it?) for that experience, and I’m pretty certain a lot of you would, too.
And if the returns are good (pretty bloody likely) and Iron Man 3 is shot from the get-go in 3D / IMAX, you Blu-ray fans would end up with an “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” Iron Man Trilogy that you could enjoy in HD 3D from start to finish. Imagine THAT movie marathon on a rainy weekend afternoon…
Wanna see Iron Man again in 3D?
As AICN also points out: if Marvel sees big returns from this venture, will we see forthcoming films like Captain America and Thor in 3D as well? Because seeing Cap jump from a plane over a hellish WWII battlefield or Thor raining down thunder in 3D would make for a pretty epic experience. Here’s hoping it all comes to pass.

No Ken I don’t watch Bones or any show that spends an hour solving a murder. I find those shows to be the lowest form of entertainment next to reality tv.

Lol…no ken j i’m actually being serious here… I would like to read what he says. He doesn’t even have to provide links with proof or anything… Just straight up tell us whats going on because it seems like you start to say it but then like for our own sake you stop and leave us in limbo. So i would like to read what he has to say about it if he’s actually going to say it though.
Actually, it only appears to be an hour to us, they typically spend much more time on it in the actual show, but of course, showing them using the bathroom, eating lunch, waiting for results to come back from the lab, sleeping, etc. would be pretty boring, and for one case to take 3 seasons, people might lose interest, lol. And anyway, it’s really more of a comedy than anything else, at least that’s why I watch it.
But the funniest thing is that the stuff they show on there is actually somewhat more realistic than what they show on the CSI shows, lol. Those shows aren’t even funny, completely not worth watching…
If I wanted to see real cases being solved through forensic science, that’s what Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, American Justice, and all of those shows on A&E and TruTV are for… Some of the stuff you see on there is crazier than fiction…

If its the one with the rowdy piper i actually have it then… Love it aswell and based on that i can see what your saying but i doubt that it would be as bad as how that movie went. I mean there are several people already that are against 3d anyways so i don’t think it would escalate to that… Even more so because 3d does get tiring… But thats just my opinion.
Eventhough to some he might seem paranoid or whatever to others he may be right and in this case… You just never really know but i’m the type of person that likes to hear both sides so i can base my judgement off of it and/or be prepared for whatever happens next. Some are wondering why films like 3 Musketeers are getting the 3D treatment. Its all about slowly conditioning people to accept 3D.
Oh and btw this new digital 3D tech won’t require any glasses. Once all the theatres are converted with digital projectors the new era of 3D will take over. Disney is partners with one of the companies that is producing these projection systems.
When it comes to tv, shows that deal with crime investigations, solving murders, winning cases in court and medical dramas are nothing I’m into,,, I can’t stand them actually.
Paranormal shows, documentaries, HBO dramas, action and sci-fi etc are what attracts me.

I’d love to see both films back to baxk in the theatre, but I highly doubt about the first Iron Man because it was just released (originally) last year.

As you can see that’s pretty frequently as 3D films are slowly taking up a lot of headlines these days. There’s almost one 3D film story every week now. Also btw, even if the subliminal avenue was removed from 3D, I still prefer 2D films… Call me old timer,,,

yes i’ve noticed your comments on other threads about 3d but it just seemed like you would start on the subject and then let us imagine the big picture and then never really finish… But i see your pov and thats all i wanted so thank you. Now i might seem a lil paranoid myself by saying this but with all these movies coming out in 3d and/or being converted to 3d it seems like it can go eitjer way still. Whether it be to just get people buying everything in 3d because its the new fad or towards national/global hypnosis for whatever it is that “they” might want us to do. Right now i’m still pro 3d till i get all the facts.

That product actually backs up what you say… especially if they do this in movies without us knowing. Mainly this line was what made me assume that…”Subconsciously, your mind will be trained to become an unstoppable machine that is driven to succeed at everything it does”… but still a little hesitant on whether they might use it for other things that are not about advertising consumer products. I will keep an open mind on it though and thanks for backing it up visually (google page).

Then when color film was first announced, there was a 790 then saying color film would brainwash people, then when surround sound was first introduced, there was a 790 then saying surround sound will brainwash people, etc. etc.
I think that’s why nobody really conspiracy theorists too seriously. Obviously there is more going on than is public, but conspiracy theorists generally take it a few levels too far, and we’re all used to that.
Now I’m sure there will be more efforts to advertise stuff with every technological advancement, besides Volvo, nobody will put the time and money into research and development unless they expect to make a return on it financially, I mean, that’s why you put in the effort right??
But just like “Y2K” and now 2012, there will always be something bigger, everyone wants to think that their generation is or will be involved in something more important or “bigger” than it really is. Nobody wants to think that even with all of these big powerful people or organizations pulling the strings that maybe some things just happen. They have to find some order or reason for everything and can’t accept that some things don’t have a clear cut answer or reason.
Now I’m not saying that I can prove a negative and say that nothing will happen or nothing is happening, but to me, it’s nothing new. There’s ALWAYS supposedly some great big conspiracy going on. You and I will continue to live a normal life despite it. So I’m not going to be an alarmist about it, either something major will happen out of this, maybe nothing will happen. Or maybe something major will happen but we won’t notice. Who knows, who cares, no reason to get your panties all up in a bunch about it, that’s my philosophy.

what ken j just said is somewhat more towards what i’m leaning to… To where things could happen or they don’t but i (ME) like to hear both sides for a just in case situation. On the plus side to the non-glasses 3d is that there’s no glasses… Downside would be either mass hypnosis and/or not wearing cool Elvis Costello-like frames… But thats just my opinion.
Yah, it’s just my opinion that to keep an open mind, know that anything CAN happen, but don’t be alarmist about it. That’s the safest and sanest way to live I think, lol.

I really don’t know if 3D is a good or bad thing for my movie experience but I’m willing to give it a shot and see how things turn out. I guess I’ll start with Avatar!
