The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the undisputed superhero king of the streaming world, with hit Netflix series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. The shows keep building on each other, carefully crafting an extended universe that can only be explored on a small screen format. Upcoming series like The Defenders, The Punisher and Iron Fist are just part of the new additions to this Netflix universe.

Iron Fist (Finn Jones) is best known in the comic books as the best pal of Luke Cage (Mike Colter). He also happens to be a dedicated martial arts expert with a centered inner spirit, which is showcased well in two new promotional images from the upcoming show.

Iron Fist has been a force in the Marvel Universe since his inception in the pages of Marvel Premiere #15 back in 1974. Iron Fist, which is the hero alias of Danny Rand, is an expert martial artist that is best known by his yellow mask and pants, while he sports a cool dragon tattoo on his bare chest. The tattoo represents an ancient and mystical ability that Danny has to access and make use of his chi. This ability is know as the Iron Fist, hence his name. Iron Fist is one of those characters that has flown largely under the radar under the large shadow of The Avengers and the X-Men. He has been brought to life in animated form a few times, in shows like Super Hero Squad and Ultimate Spider-Man, but the upcoming Netflix series marks his first live action treatment. These cool new pictures that popped up on Reddit feature Iron Fist at his Kung Fu best:

The Iron Fist series is going to center around a once missing Danny Rand emerging again in New York, where the other Marvel Netflix heroes are all based, looking to stake his claim in the family business. He will have to deal with threats that appear to hunt the Iron Fist, like Zhou Cheng (Lewis Tan) and his duties as a superhero will interfere with his attempts to restore his family name. There will be a few crossover characters from the Marvel Netflix Universe that are confirmed to appear, including attorney Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) and of course the ever present nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). Temple has made an appearance in every Marvel Netflix series thus far.

In the comic books Iron Fist could often be found teaming up with his best friend Luke Cage, who has already had a record-breaking debut in his own solo series on Netflix. Cage, another hero that has long been overlooked, is finally getting his day in the sun. It remains to be seen if Iron Fist will be able to find the same success and acceptance from the viewers as Cage. The two will both star in the upcoming crossover series The Defenders, along with Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), sometime later this year.
