Netflix recently expanded its corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the debut of Luke Cage, a series following the titular bulletproof man played by Mike Colter. Previously, Netflix had premiered two seasons of Daredevil focused on the Man Without Fear Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), as well as one of Jessica Jones, the second Hell’s Kitchen based series, starring Krysten Ritter. Next up in Netflix’s Marvel lineup is Iron Fist, before all four heroes team up for The Defenders.
The fourth series produced by Marvel and Netflix will follow Danny Rand, played by Game of Thrones‘ Finn Jones, as he returns to New York City after a period away. According to the synopsis for Iron Fist, Rand will attempt to reconnect with his past and his family’s legacy, meanwhile fighting the criminal element of his world using “kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.” Now, a new motion poster for Iron Fist teases more about Danny Rand’s character.
Marvel debuted the new motion poster on Twitter during New York Comic-Con with the caption “Orphan. Warrior. Hero.” Additionally, the tweet tags Marvel Chief Creative Officer/Iron Fist executive producer Joe Quesada, who presumably designed the art for the posters. Take a look:
In addition to Jones, Iron Fist stars fellow Game of Thrones alum Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, a woman with her own martial arts dojo – which was teased in the season finale of Luke Cage – who becomes an ally of Danny Rand. Plus, David Wenham (Lord of the Rings) will play Harold Meachum, while Jessica Stroup (The Following) and Tom Pelphrey (Banshee) will portray his children Joy and Ward Meachum. Making the jump from Jessica Jones, Iron Fist will also include Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeryn Hogarth.
Although little is known about Netflix’s upcoming series, now that Luke Cage has debuted it seems the streaming service is beginning to gear up for the launch of Iron Fist — typically Marvel and Netflix wait until a series has debuted before ramping up promotion for the next show. However, since Marvel released a teaser for Iron Fist at SDCC this year and, more recently, Netflix announced the premiere date for the series, it seems more information about Danny Rand’s introduction is on the way — especially since Marvel will host an Iron Fist panel at NYCC this weekend.
Daredevil season 1 & 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist season 1 arrives on March 17th, 2017. The Defenders arrives in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
