Actress Anna Paquin has been cast in director Martin Scorsese’s latest Netflix film, The Irishman, as the daughter of Robert De Niro’s title character. The upcoming film, which should be released in 2019, is an American biographical crime film written by Steven Zaillian based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses: Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran and the Inside Story of the Mafia, the Teamsters, and the Final Ride by Jimmy Hoffa by author Charles Brandt and tells the story of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a notorious mob hitman who recalls his involvement in the 1975 disappearance of powerful crime boss Jimmy Hoffa.

The film marks the first time Scorsese is working with his old muse Robert De Niro (who plays Sheeran) since 1995’s Casino, and the two-time Oscar winner is hardly the only big name in the cast. Joining him are the likes of heavy-hitters like Al Pacino, Joe Pesci (coming out of retirement), and Harvey Keitel – all of whom are legends in the gangster/crime genre. While much attentions is being paid to the veterans of the ensemble, a younger thespian has now just become involved with the project in what likely is a key supporting role.

A new release by Deadline reveals that actress Anna Paquin will be joining the star-studded line up playing Peggy, the strong-willed daughter of Frank and Mary. Peggy dislikes the hitman lifestyle Frank has chosen for himself, so she distanced herself from her father over the years and is often finds herself living in fear of Frank worried what he would do to those who wronged her, if she shared with him the problems in her life. Peggy also grows attracted to Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino), which bodes bad news for the couple considering we know her father was somehow involved in Hoffa’s disappearance.

Paquin is best known for her role as the main character Sookie Stackhouse in HBO’s hit Emmy winning series True Blood. She also won an Oscar for her role in the 1993 film The Piano when she was only 11 years old and has since portrayed the mutant superheroine Rogue in the Marvel Comics movie X-Men and reprised the role in the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past (though most of her scenes were cut in the final theatrical version), currently stars in the Canadian crime drama Bellevue airing on CBC and will be starring in her husband and fellow actor Stephen Moyer’s directorial debut with The Parting Glass.
