I think it’s amusing that the original post talks about the F-word, and Forgotten how, then Family Friendly Films (4 F-words).

I’m not sure I understand what Kofi Outlaw is talking about. Isn’t “cussing” a real word? Describing foul words and language?

Beverly Hills Cop is definitely a classic, and when you succeed as well as they did with Die Hard 4, I am completely excited with the idea of Beverly Hills Cop 4. EVEN if it’s done by Brett Ratner.

I would actually love to see Murphy come back as Axel. First because I would like to see the franchise redeem itself for the terrible second sequel, and second to finally see Eddie Murphy do what he does best: Curse. I am tired of these family films that he has been coming out with. I love family films but his are terrible. It’s like he is trying to revive something that came out of the “Nutty Professor” success. What he needs to do is come home to that dirty, grungy comedy like “BHC” or “Coming to America”.

Axel Foley, what a guy. A great role played by Eddie Murphy. One of his best roles I personally believe. The new one should be good. I can not help but think that people are running out of ideas for films now and are just dragging films from back in the day and making them into a longer sequel.

We hope that the film has the trio Axel-Billy-Taggart, investigating a conspiracy to corrupt policemen. But they must also include the character of Bogomil, which infiltrates into the conspiracy, and that as a partner of Axel has put Detroit Jeffrey Friedman. Must return Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox and Paul Reiser.

I am a father who tries to teach his children to not use vulgar language. Even when I blow may top, I don’t use it. My motto is “Life and death are in the power of the tongue” (stop smiling you perverts ). Having said that, I can’t see how these films would have been as successful without them. Films like Die Hard, Aliens, Robocop, etc… would not be the same. I remember watching Kill Bill Vol. 2 in the theater and when Thurman’s character used that “five finger exploding heart palm” technique on Bill, someone in the audience said, “F^%$^%’d him up!” and the theater exploded with laughter. Now if films were never made with those words, maybe I would feel different, but I have seen these films on regular TV and it wasn’t the same. Just my 1.34 cents.

I love Eddie Murphy, I love Beverly Hills Cop. I am absolutely stoked to hear of a new addition to the franchise. Should be awesome.

Movies like Beverly Hills Cop, and Die Hard seemed to originally be softer films; with rather graphic adult content, but the adult content usually fit in the story. (Here’s where I’d have to disagree with you Vic) Where as Bruce Willis breaking the thirty-second swear record while looking out a window seemed to be added just for controversial effect. I’m not saying that swearing should be eliminated completely, I actually believe a little bit of the opposite should be indulged; if it fits in the movie however.

While I’m not a fan of gratuitous language or nudity in a film, I can NOT imagine the Die Hard films without McClane’s famous “mouth.”

I think the implication here is that Murphy just seems to have lost his humor mojo when it comes to family friendly films – he’s just not funny in them and I’d love to see if he still has it if he returned to the format that made him famous.

I agree with you completely. Not trying to argue. It just “seemed” you were implying “part” of the movie’s attraction was Eddie’s foul mouth. I’d imagine quite a few people would share such an opinion.

It’s just an annoyance to me when a movie has gratuitous “adult” material thrown in for no sensible reason. Die Hard and a lot of other 80s classics would have been better with less of that.

Those two instances of the word “cussing” marks an 1000% for me of instances in which I’ve heard the word “cussing” in the last two years.

The stock on “cussing” has just gone up. Nice.

I don’t mean to imply that the cussing is what made the movie good. What I’m saying is that the Eddie Murphy of Trading Places, Coming to America, and Beverly Hills Cop was a lot funnier than the Eddie Murphy of Daddy Day Care. His strength as an actor and as a comedian is on display best when he is in movies geared toward adults.

Not at all excited. Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 were good movies but the sequel was pretty bad. It’d be a shocker if any of the old “Banana in the tail-pipe” magic could be revived.

And, personally, I didn’t think the cussing in the films is part of what made it good so less or no cussing would be fine by me.
