Interstellar Teaser The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug First Interstellar Trailer to Debut with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The holiday season heralds not only the release of the biggest and most anticipated annual movies, it also is a time for unveiling the upcoming year’s big titles. Many a summer blockbuster and critical darling has first been revealed to audiences at movie theaters during Christmastime.

Few movies released in December of 2013 are as hotly-awaited as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Fittingly, one of 2014′s most intriguing movies – The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar – will debut its first teaser trailer during showings of Peter Jackson’s fantasy opus.

The Film Stage shares the scoop that Interstellar‘s first preview will be attached to prints of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The site shared via its official Twitter feed:

At just under two minutes long, the Interstellar preview has a length more considerable than many teaser trailers – certainly longer than the cryptic first look at Inception. Hopefully, Interstellar‘s first preview will reveal the guts (so to speak) of what’s shaping up to be a rather secretive production.

Though it hardly needed solid confirmation, the fact that Interstellar will show off its first footage alongside a movie as big as The Desolation of Smaug verifies that Nolan’s latest is being positioned as an event film. After the somewhat muddled and contradictory marketing of Inception – which turned out to be a smash hit despite many audience-members not knowing anything about the film until they walked into the theater – we can be assured that the hype for Interstellar will start early and go strong right up until its November 2014 release.

Interstellar features an all-star cast, which includes Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Casey Affleck (Out of the Furnace), Michael Caine (Now You See Me), Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream), and John Lithgow (Dexter).

Interstellar will warp into theaters on November 7th, 2014.

  1. Really hoping for another Dark knight quality leval film from CNolan.

    • What’s a leval?

  2. Looking forward to this and the ASM2 trailer, hopefully we will also get the Godzilla trailer with the Hobbit as well.

  3. The Amazing Spider-Man, Interstellar and possible Godzilla now. Damn, I can’t wait for them!

  4. been waiting for Interstellar trailer

  5. Nolan has never made a bad film, and has a couple of masterpieces already. I highly doubt there will be much footage to show being that they are still in the middle of production.

    • I’m betting it’ll just be a concept trailer of sort and a couple of flashes of the characters. The film is I think one year away, so it might just be showing the premise.

    • Unfortunately, that can’t be said anymore. You could argue that he hasn’t DIRECTED a bad film… but he was involved in Man of Steel.

    • Nolan with 43 years got movies like “Memento, The Prestige, Batman Trilogy and Inception”!! I bet Interstellar will not be a disappointment!

  6. Yes!

  7. I was “interstellar”, but she was not into me at all!

  8. Makes going to see the hobbit worth it for the trailers. Tho i am not a lotr fan at all

    • I’m going to be honest, I’m more excited for the trailers than the movie lol. And I’m a huge LOTR fan.

  9. SPACE CORN!!!

    • Is that space corn from the Niblet Nebula?

  10. I hope this is a great film, despite the “Global Climate Change” plot. You know, Corn! Never mind.

  11. Could you not show a picture of Smaug? I went ages not seeing him and stopping the trailer before I saw too much, and now his face is plastered on the page? Meh.

Anyway, I hope it’s the same for UK audiences, as sometimes those US trailers don’t make it on time.

  12. i have yet to be dissapointed in any of nolans movies, including his involvment with the Man of Steel

  13. Oh yeah…Jessica Chastain in a space suit — *I* like that

  14. So far I have enjoyed most of his work so I am confident this one will be entertaining. I’m not a big fan of Inception nor The Dark Knight Rises but both were solid and enjoyable films.

  15. The sci-fi concept of time-travel is so fit for the Nolan way of movies, with flashbacks and non-linearity, it was just a matter of time before he boarded it. As usual, the sci-fi element will be most probably secondary while a more involved story, involving intense relationships between the characters, is the real heart of the plot. I can’t wait to see what Mr. Nolan has in his hat for us this time. His mind-bending stories (“Memento”, “The Prestige”, “Inception”) have never disappointed me.

  16. Have been Needing a good Mind Fu(k for a while! Cant Wait. Cant wait for the twist or cliff hanger!! This a transcendence will be bad A$$!!
