The holiday season heralds not only the release of the biggest and most anticipated annual movies, it also is a time for unveiling the upcoming year’s big titles. Many a summer blockbuster and critical darling has first been revealed to audiences at movie theaters during Christmastime.
Few movies released in December of 2013 are as hotly-awaited as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Fittingly, one of 2014’s most intriguing movies – The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar – will debut its first teaser trailer during showings of Peter Jackson’s fantasy opus.
The Film Stage shares the scoop that Interstellar‘s first preview will be attached to prints of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The site shared via its official Twitter feed:
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' is 1 minute and 43 seconds, attached to 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.'— The Film Stage (@TheFilmStage) November 28, 2013
At just under two minutes long, the Interstellar preview has a length more considerable than many teaser trailers – certainly longer than the cryptic first look at Inception. Hopefully, Interstellar‘s first preview will reveal the guts (so to speak) of what’s shaping up to be a rather secretive production.
Though it hardly needed solid confirmation, the fact that Interstellar will show off its first footage alongside a movie as big as The Desolation of Smaug verifies that Nolan’s latest is being positioned as an event film. After the somewhat muddled and contradictory marketing of Inception – which turned out to be a smash hit despite many audience-members not knowing anything about the film until they walked into the theater – we can be assured that the hype for Interstellar will start early and go strong right up until its November 2014 release.
Interstellar features an all-star cast, which includes Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Casey Affleck (Out of the Furnace), Michael Caine (Now You See Me), Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream), and John Lithgow (Dexter).
Interstellar will warp into theaters on November 7th, 2014.
