‘Internship’ Trailer: Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn Adapt to the Digital Age

Published 2 years ago by

The Internship sees Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn reteam for the first time since the 2005 hit Wedding Crashers as two recently laid off salesman having a hard time adapting to the digital age. Ironically, they see an internship at the world’s biggest website, Google, as their ticket to a new life and a way to integrate themselves into the modern era of business.

Of course, they have some trouble fitting in initially, as they are surrounded by recent college grads and young geniuses, who are just as hungry for the limited number of full-time jobs at the company.

The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who is best known for helming family-friendly hits Date Night, Night at the Museum and Real Steel. The cast is rounded out by Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), Max Minghella (The Social Network), Aasif Mandvi (The Dictator), B.J. Novak (The Office) and the one and only John Goodman as Wilson and Vaughn’s rather blunt former employer.

This latest trailer is very similar to the the one that debuted a couple months back. There are some new jokes, but the premise doesn’t allow for much humor beyond the old vs. young bits that come with the territory. The trailer definitely presents the type of comedy one would expect from Levy. Though some will find laughs here, for many, the humor will come across as pretty safe and banal, especially for those who absolutely adored Wedding Crashers.

Of course, it was the chemistry between Wilson and Vaughn – along with some hilarious improvised dialogue – that made Wedding Crashers one of the more memorable comedies of the 2000s. We can see some of that chemistry at work in the trailers, but let’s just hope Levy lets Wilson and Vaughn play a little bit more and that the film delivers some smarter humor than the trailer lets on.

The Internship hits theatres on June 7th, 2013.
