Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is back with a new haircut and a new set of allies in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, the second installment in a planned movie quadrilogy based on Veronica Roth’s young adult sci-fi novel series. The films are set in a dystopian future where society is divided up into five factions based on personality traits, and those with more than one prominent personality trait are considered dangerous and disruptive to the system.
The Divergent Series‘ heroine Tris is, of course, a “Divergent” and the fallout from the first film leaves her on the run with a group of rebels, including love interest Four (Theo James), after she and her friends break free of the system. Freedom doesn’t necessarily mean peace, however; Jeanine (Kate Winslet), a leader of the Erudite faction, is conducting mysterious psychological experiments on Divergents and is determined to hunt down every last one of them for use in the trials – Tris included.
Divergent is notable for having two sequels given the green light by Summit Entertainment before the first film was even released, and apparently the studio’s confidence was well-placed as Divergent grossed a respectable $288 million at the worldwide box office. Insurgent is set to hit theaters almost exactly one year after Divergent, and to help get fans hyped for Tris’ next clash with Jeanine, MTV has unveiled the latest trailer for Insurgent, which will air on TV before the Super Bowl on Sunday.
The trailer is accompanied by a new poster that also doubles as a new cover for the hardcore edition of the novel. It’s a close-up variation of the poster that was released alongside the second trailer for Insurgent, though the fact that this poster isn’t reversible is a little disappointing. Nonetheless, it’s an eye-catching design that could easily entice a few extra people into theaters for Insurgent this spring.
