‘Insidious Trailer’ Raises Goosebumps

insidious movie title Insidious Trailer Raises Goosebumps

A lot of horror fans are either curious or eager to see Insidious, the new film from Saw co-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. A teaser trailer for Insidious debuted back in January, and offered some familiar haunted house movie tropes (objects moving on their own, shadowy figures whizzing by, whispers heard in the night), while managing to pique interest with a brief montage of creepy imagery which suggested that this film could very well deliver scares. An early clip from the film also showcased an evil apparition that could potentially become one of the new icons of horror (if the film makes proper use of it).

Today we have the full trailer for Insidious, and although it’s not all that much different from the teaser trailer, it does maintain that creepy-to-scary atmosphere throughout the longer running time of the full-length trailer, which would suggest that the teaser was not just some cleverly-edited fluke, but rather that Wan and Whannel may indeed have another hit horror movie (and let’s face it, with these two, subsequent franchise) on their hands.

Before we get to the new trailer, have a look at what Insidious is all about:

Insidious is the terrifying story of a family who shortly after moving discover that dark spirits have possessed their home and that their son has inexplicably fallen into a coma. Trying to escape the haunting and save their son, they move again only to discover that it was not their house that was haunted.”

Now that you’re aware of the story, have a look at the full trailer for Insidious, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting:

The film stars Watcmen‘s Patrick Wilson and X-Men: First Class‘ Rose Byrne as the parents of the young boy haunted by the spirits. If you watch closely, you’ll also notice that the film features Barbara Hershey, who recently turned in a spectacularly creepy performance as Natalie Portman’s deranged mother in Black Swan; also, the medium lady who comes to suss out the evil spirits is Lin Shaye, who most people are likely to remember from her scene-stealing performance as Cameron Diaz’s über-tan roommate Magda in There’s Something About Mary. Not a bad cast.

The original Saw was truly a clever and disturbing twist on the serial killer sub-genre, so at the moment I’m cautiously optimistic that Insidious will turn out to be an equally clever and disturbing twist on the haunted house sub-genre. However, the filmmakers have already made one small misstep, in my opinion: revealing that the boy, not the house, is the source of the evil spirits. That’s a twist I would’ve saved for the theater, but hopefully they gave that info away in the trailer because there’s a bigger twist in store for us when we actually see the movie.

Insidious haunts theaters on April 1st.

  1. What was that red and black face behing Patrick Wilson @ 1:26?

    • how could you not know this?
      it was darth maul…

      • Ha, well played TankD

      • that’s exactly what i was thinking hehehe

      • I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought “That looks almost exactly like Darth Maul.”

  2. Creepy for sure but not holding my breath. Creepy children movies are rarely good and combined with the Saw directors, I’m skeptical.

Good actors though in the leads.

  3. Smacks of Poltergeist meets Exorcist meets…I dunno.
Can’t say the last time a horror movie did a thing for me.
No – I take that back. Let the Right One In. And its decent remake Let Me In.
I realize they aren’t the same kind of horror, but this movie looks like they literally wrote plot points on paper and picked a few out of a hat.

    • Watch “Martyrs” and “Inside” as well!

  4. Looks fairly creepy to me — agree with Spaceagepaige that it has elements of Poltergeist, alot it seems. I like that they didn’t carm the trailer with a messload of jumpscares, but kept it high in the creep department. I’d see this one.

  5. Looks pretty solid.

  6. Yea I’m not into horror movies really at all but this one had me intrigued.

  7. yet another paranormal activity style piece of s*** how can people hate on hollywood for being cliché/ripping off other movies and say this looks good?

i’m not into this kind of garbage and i didn’t even care about the pissant trailer waste of time.

  8. Ew… that was creepy

  9. I’m gonna agree with my Screenrant brethren. This looks awful. It’s an insult to say that this is real footage. Very, very stupid trailer.

    • Oops, meant to post that on the Apollo 18 trailer. My mistake. :)

  10. wow. that was paranormal activity all over again. I mean, the filming guy, the paranormal psychic, the line “i want to get out of this house!”. sigh.

  11. Well that’s weird,
I posted a comment here the day the trailer came out. Now its gone.
