It's been a little while since a video has come out about NeatherRealm Studios' Injustice 2, the upcoming sequel to 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us. Most of the clips and videos released thus far have shown off new additions to the game roster or gameplay snippets which showcase the moves of individual characters, including some of the special attacks that characters will be able to use in the game. So far, it looks like the game is expanding on the roster and gameplay of the original in all the right ways.

A new video release now gives us a better look at Supergirl, one of the new characters being added to the roster this time around. The gameplay video shows that at least some of her moves may be familiar to fans of the fighting game genre, potentially making her a favorite of those looking for something familiar in the new game.

As with other Injustice 2 gameplay videos, the new clip via IGN strings together fight sequences showing Supergirl trying out some of her moves. From the action showcased in the video, fans can look forward to using her ice breath, heat vision and a super-speedy "teleport" attack where she flies off of one side of the screen and attacks from the other. These moves should be pretty familiar, especially to fans of the Mortal Kombat series, as they're pretty common attack types. The video also showcases some of her up-close-and-personal attacks, suggesting that she's going to be good at both some ranged attacks and melee.

Also shown off is a super move that sees her carrying an opponent up into space and then driving them back to the Earth with her heat vision. This causes damage not just from the fall and the heat ray, but also from a few meteorites that tag along for the ride. This isn't the first time that we've seen an enemy plummeting to the Earth from space, but its inclusion in this video gives us a good idea of how well her various moves connect together thematically.

Some fans worried early on that Supergirl would be little more than another version of Superman, able to spam the same sort of abilities that made him a pain in the original Injustice. Heat vision in particular was a concern, though the new video suggests that the limitations on Supergirl's heat vision eliminates that as an issue. Some may still worry about how well she's balanced given that she appears to play like a mix of Sub Zero and Scorpion, but hopefully her powers are balanced to make her strong without being too powerful.

Of course, given that there are some pretty powerful names being added to the roster in Injustice 2, it's possible that Supergirl will need every power that she can get to hold her own. We won't know for sure until next year, but there may be reason to be hopeful that Injustice 2 is NetherRealm's best title to date.
