A new trailer for Injustice 2 teases some of the game’s DLC by showing Mortal Kombat character Sub Zero do battle against DC Comics icons Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. While there have been dozens and dozens of games based off the various heroes and villains that inhabit the DC Comics universe, few in recent memory have been as widely praised as 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us. A fighting game developed by the team behind the Mortal Kombat series, Injustice enabled players to select from a who’s who of DC characters and proceed to brutally beat one another into submission, as well as offered an engaging single-player story mode experience.
Needless to say, Injustice was a hit, leading its sequel Injustice 2 to become one of the most highly anticipated titles of 2017. The game finally arrived on consoles in May, largely drawing sentiments just as positive as the original, and boasting another thrilling story mode. While Injustice 2 boasts a fairly loaded character roster, the first wave of DLC fighters have slowly begun to arrive, with Red Hood being released as part of Fighter Pack 1 just days ago.
The next DLC roster addition will be Mortal Kombat mainstay Sub-Zero, coming in July. The official Injustice YouTube channel has released a trailer heralding his arrival, featuring the ice-throwing ninja battling it out with DC titans like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Check it out above.
This actually won’t be the first time Sub-Zero will be matched up with DC’s best in a fighting game though, having taken part in the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe crossover title back in 2008, which in some ways serves as a precursor to the gameplay style of the Injustice series. Sub-Zero also made a quick cameo in the first Injustice, during the fight entrance of his eternal nemesis Scorpion, himself a DLC addition to that game’s roster.
Sub-Zero is of course one of the most popular fighters in the entire Mortal Kombat series, making him a natural choice to journey into the world of Injustice 2. Sub-Zero – albeit with one more than one man donning the mask – is in fact the only character to appear in every main series MK entry to date, speaking to his level of reverence among fans. While he may not be the Mr. Freeze that Batman is used to, one can bet that he’ll pose just as much of a challenge to the Caped Crusader.
