Without a shadow of a doubt, Injustice 2 is one of the most highly anticipated gaming releases of 2017. The game will once more bring DC heroes and villains together in some of the most brutal and bloody battles their universe has ever seen. There are just a few months to go until the sequel to the critically acclaimed original game, Injustice: Gods Among Us hits shelves, so now more than ever, new information is trickling out to whet the appetites of potential buyers.

Following a story trailer in January that promised more chaos and carnage than ever before, and the announcement that a prequel comic book series would be released alongside the new game comes another brand new trailer, this time taking a look at some unseen live gameplay footage.

The developers behind the game have decided to showcase a character the fans have consistently been asking for: Black Canary. Foes beware: don’t let her pleasant and charming demeanour fool you. Trained by Wildcat and some other incredible fighters from the DC universe, Canary is one of the most dangerous adversaries you could go up against and proves her skill in this brand new gameplay trailer, below.

Screeching her way into battle, courtesy of IGN, Black Canary isn’t afraid to utilise the Canary Cry to the best of her ability, even implementing the wail into her Super Move which plunges an opponent into the ground using just sound waves. While those who have already delved into the Injustice prequel comics know she’s a part of Batman’s Insurgency, this is the first time we’ve seen her jump into the fray. We also see for the first time a brand new field of battle, with Arkham Asylum sitting neatly in the background, though exactly how environmental damage will be dealt out on this map is left up in the air.

Bringing Black Canary on board could be one of the smartest decisions Warner Bros. Entertainment have made. She’s become such a fan-favorite character and comic book icon that not having her around for a second straight time would have been odd, especially with her presence in the comic book prequel series. Bringing a modernised version of Dinah Lance to the game is certainly a welcome thing, though it’s clear those behind creating her haven’t been shy in borrowing from a number of different Canary iterations throughout the years.

With some hugely-recognizable names being added to the Injustice 2 roster as the weeks tick by and we come closer to release, we hope Black Canary won’t get lost in the fray. She’s somebody who’s deserved her chance to shine for some time, so if she’s given that opportunity within the game’s story, players could be going away with some huge smiles on their faces.

Injustice 2 comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16, 2017.
