Harrison Ford returns to the big screen as the man in the fedora, in an exclusive IMAX release of Steven Spielberg’s globe-trotting adventure, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (or just Raiders of the Lost Ark, if you’re a traditionalist).
The film begins a limited one-week IMAX run today, with the addition of (as the press release puts it) “customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio” – to make the re-release an even more immersive and viscerally-stunning viewing experience than when Spielberg’s blockbuster first screened it in regular theaters over 30 years ago. Scroll on down for additional incentive to run on down and see Raiders at your local IMAX theater ASAP.
IMAX has announced that the first 500 people to show up at a Raiders screening anywhere get an exclusive collectible poster. You can also Tweet #IMAXIndy to enter for a chance to win more prizes – including, the Indiana Jones Tetralogy on Blu-ray, IMAX ticket packs, and other Indiana Jones posters (with Drew Struzan’s original artwork, perhaps?).
Here are the official statements on the event:
“When I saw the stunning quality of the picture and heard the enhanced sound in an IMAX theatre, I was quite literally blown away and hope that audiences will enjoy the experience as much as I did,” said Spielberg.
“We are honored to present all the excitement of Indiana Jones in a way it’s never been experienced before – IMAX,” said Greg Foster, Chairman & President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We look forward to celebrating this iconic film with longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers.”
Remember, the IMAX release for Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark ends on September 14th, 2012 – so don’t delay if you plan on checking out the film in the big, big screen format – it could be a long wait until Indiana Jones 5.
Everyone else, the Indiana Jones Blu-ray collection releases on September 18th.

Yeah… definitely not a safari hat. It’s a fedora, made out of rabbit fur in the first film.
Everyone should go see it in IMAX, and take some young people who don’t know what good cinema is today. It was awesome seeing kids running in to see a 30-year old movie. As a huge but only 24-year old Indy fan who unfortunately only got to saw the fourth of his favorite series in theaters, it was pretty euphoric to finally get to see it on the big screen. The transfer was really good, and the sound in particular was better than it’s ever been, almost to the point that I thought they’d added some sound effects. I’ve probably seen that movie about 40-50 times, but still noticed a number of things for the first time on such a big screen.
It’s not the years, it’s the MM.
Going next Tuesday at the Irvine Spectrum, Woo Hoo!!
Going to see this on Wednesday! I can’t wait! I can already hear the music playing….
I didn’t get a poster…
I went and saw it yesterday.
