While the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise may have failed to scratch the adventure itch for most film fans, it was hugely profitable at the box office, making $786 million around the world. In Hollywood terms that sort of money means follow-up, and as we recently told you a story is in development for a fifth film in the Harrison Ford-starring franchise.
The Insider is reporting (via Slash Film) that a new Indiana Jones film will be going into production soon and could hit screens by 2011 – when Harrison Ford is on the cusp of turning 70!

Now while The Insider uses an unknown/unnamed (and therefore unreliable) source for the story, the release date mentioned does gel with the kind of time frame it would take to mount a big budget action film. However, having said that, it took George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford twenty years to agree on and develop the script for The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so two years might be be a bit of an optimistic hope.
Last month Shia LaBeouf talked about the development of the film saying :
“Steven just said that he cracked the story on it before I left and I think they’re gearing that up.”
So it does appear that Indy 5 is moving along on Spielberg’s backburner. With LaBeouf hotter than ever after Transformers 2 and Spielberg with a full directing slate it might be difficult to schedule. Ford’s not currently attached to any other films having shot comedy Morning Glory and the as yet untitled Crowley film.
The main problem with Indy 5 (apart from scheduling issues) is that Harrison Ford isn’t getting any younger and as he approaches 70, making an Indiana Jones film might be difficult (although Ford was in damn good shape for a man even half his age in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).
What do you guys think – make Indy 5 or just leave it alone?

I really have no problem with Harrison Ford.
Shia Laboeuf picking up the torch is my problem! He doesn’t even LOOK like his supposed ‘father’. If I was Indy, I’d be asking Marion for a paternity test!
I personally think IF they were to make another indy movie that it should not include shia. His being in the 4th movie completley ruined the tone in my opinion. Age is not so much a factor its the stars appearance and physical capibility. What would make a better film in my opinion is if it were to include sean connery. Agree with me or not that would get people into the theaters
I think Indiana Jones 5 is a Great idea, i think Harrison Ford is a great actor and no one could replce him, i am a huge Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford fan, i have all 4 Indiana Jones movies.
I think you should make another one even know Harrison Ford is 67 he is still a great young actor, i hope he lives 4 a long, long time!!!!! Don’t listen to what anyone says about not making another one if they say no well then they are not an Indiana Jones fan!!!

Who ever says anything bad about Indiana Jones is not an Indiana Jones fan or has never seen Harrison Ford act because Harrison Ford is the best actor EVER!!!!
If you replace Harrison Ford about half won’t come see it you won’t make alot of money hardly, none at all, i know i would not come see it!!!!!
I wouldnt go as far as to say that Ford is the best actor out there but he def is a great actor and holds a great deal of stage presence and respect. Taking that into consideration if they replace Ford with another Indie it wont be as good but it still may roll in some $$ if dfone correctly. I mean Ford is almost 70 now I think that it is safe to say that his vine swinging days should be virtually over. In my opinion at this point they ended off Indie 4 just fine with Indie getting married to the supposebly the love of his life and finding out he had a kid. we found out that his dad died and he was moved to ass dean. ALll good things for him and a happy ending.

Pick a new actor- one who has lots of charisma and charm- and reboot the series in like a decade. I would hold off and do it later than sooner.
Indie can continue on.

So then if Harrison Ford were to be unable to play the part it is your opinion the franchise shoudl end?
Listen, I do not think you can find a bigger IJ fan than me but 4 was one of the worst movies I have ever had to endure. The premise had nothing in common with a traditional IJ film and it introduced way to many new characters without adequate development. On top of this, Shia’s acting was painful.
Having said that, there is no way they can let the franchise end with that trash of a movie. I think this factor, far more than money, is the reason we will see an IJ 5. I am completely open to seeing Harrison and Spielberg back for as long as they can perform. Although I am more interested in seeing the franchise continue. I believe the right actor could take up the character without missing a step.
Say, Leonardo DiCaprio?
Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones … just as Sean Connery is James Bond .. both irreplacable
