Just a few days after an IMDB report which described it appeared online, and after playing before Inglourious Basterds in theaters, we now have the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception to view for ourselves! It comes to us after months of mystery and speculation surrounding the movie, pertaining to even just the simple premise.

The trailer does little to remedy that, but is cool as hell nonetheless.

So far with Inception we’ve had some set images, a set report, some character names/short descriptions and an enigmatic short plot outline of, “A contemporary sci-fi thriller set within the architecture of the mind,” to go on. All of that hasn’t really given us much insight into what the movie is actually about. A rumored plot outline has been circulating that described the film as being about entering people’s dreams and planting/retrieving information, but that has not been confirmed as genuine (although it sounds plausible to me).

The teaser trailer is exactly that… a teaser, showing little actual footage and still not giving us much regarding what the movie is about. Basically it plays up the fact that Nolan directed the mega success that is/was The Dark Knight, and tightens the tension throughout. It’s not much to go on, but it’s still a very well done teaser for what it is. Enjoy:

What the hell is going on in that hallway?! It looks like they’re in a hallway that is either being turned on some sort of swivel, or the gravity has been removed/lessened. With all this talk of entering dreams and being, “set within the architecture of the mind,” I wouldn’t be surprised if that was some sort of Matrix style fight sequence dreamt by Leonardo DiCaprio’s character. And what’s with that weird silver spinning top (which can also be found on the film’s official website)? I could go on and on with the questions…

The trailer is certainly fulfilling its purpose with me: Teasing with a little bit of footage and getting my mind buzzing as to what it could all mean.

I can’t wait to see what a FULL trailer will show us…

Inception stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy. It is (of course) directed by Christopher Nolan.

What do you make of the first teaser for Inception? Any ideas what the story will be about going by the vague hints in this trailer?

Inception is currently filming and has a release date of July 16th, 2010.

  1. A good teaser. Can’t wait for the film itself

  2. looks really interesting like Memento was.

  3. DiCaprio needs to learn how to grow some serious facial hair before i can take him seriously as an adult actor. That being said, cool teaser. I wish we had more

  4. Looks great! Nolan is back!

  5. Great teaser, indeed Matrixie.

  6. The only thing that looked any good was that scene in the hallway, and even that wasn’t anything special.

  7. Cillian Murphy at :37?

  8. Great teaser, like everyone said. Makes me want to see more. Nolan hasn’t let me down yet but did manage to blow my mind with Dark Knight. Can’t wait.

  9. Looks interesting, definitely. I just wish it gave you more to go off of. I’m sure there’ll be another out soon though. Might check this one out.

  10. Well, looks great, and it does want to make me see more, but I hope the trailer isn’t more revealing than this. Christopher Nolan has shown to me that he is a fantastic director in keeping a certain amount of suspense and thrill in his movies and I would love going into the movie theater knowing just the basics for this, if that. That being said, I will definitely be anxious to see a full length trailer because it does look extremely enticing and I just know this is going to be quite a film.

  11. This is probably my most anticipated film of 2010. Leo is hit or miss with his acting. He has proven he can be great, but has also proven he can disappoint. Nolan has been near perfection so far aside from his film that cured Insomnia. Nolan is very talented and I antcipate any film he makes. Micheal Cain is another great talent attached to this film that just pumps me up more. Nolan is the number one reason, but number two is probably Josheph Gordon Levit who has been nothing short of spectacular the last few years. I know almost nothing about this movie and want to see it so bad.

  12. All I can tell is that Leo DeCaprio is in it.
What’s with the lame music? Turn it down a notch !!!

  13. Leo is hit or miss with his acting? I must disagree whole heartedly.

  14. Have to agree with MCat – when’s the last time DiCaprio gave a bad performance in a film? Example, please.

  15. Actually the only time I can think of when Leo DiCaprio’s acting has been bad was in Titanic.

  16. I thought he could of done much better in the Aviator to be honest. I know some people were impressed, but I wasn’t at all. it wasn’t bad just not stand out. I honestly thought he was very unimpressive. Also I thought he did kind of bad in Catch me if you can. I thought he was the worst part of the movie. Same goes for Gangs of New York.

  17. Leo is NOT a hit or miss actor. He’s always been reliable to good, IMO.

  18. @Daniel F,

Bad in Catch Me If You Can?! I think that’s one of his (and Spielberg’s) absolute BEST movies.

I don’t think DiCaprio is hit-or-miss at all, he’s pretty much great all the time IMO.

  19. I must agree. Catch Me If You Can may be one of his greatest performances IMO.

  20. iron mask? ugh…

  21. Agree with Vic and MCAT. C’mon 790…that’s your friend and mine…HANS ZIMMER! Mr. Nolan will not fail us!

  22. Not feeling it yet. I need a full trailer.

  23. Leo is always solid, I love that guy… and so does my girlfriend and I’m cool with it.

  24. This movie looks really sweet Memento is one of my favorite movies and I’m glad Nolan is going back to the psychological mystery genre. It’s also cool Leo is attached I enjoy him for the most part in his action/crime roles (blood diamond, body of lies, the departed, gangs of new york) I haven’t seen all of catch me if you can but from what I saw he was great. Also nobody mentioned the basketball diaries which is a superb movie he played in at a very young age. He also attaches himself to great projects for the most part which i love and I am really anticipating his next collaboration with scorsese Shutter Island. One of the greatest actors of our time!
