Inception Limited Edition Briefcase Blu ray Inception DVD/Blu ray Details Revealed

As Christopher Nolan’s brainy blockbuster, Inception, approaches the $700 million mark in worldwide box office, details on the DVD and Blu-ray release have been unofficially announced.

I was thinking about this release just the other day and couldn’t help but hope for a special edition silver briefcase version. Just to prove my prediction, here is my psychic tweet. It looks like dreams do come true (see what I did there?) as the Triple Play Limited Edition Briefcase will house the movie and some extra gifts for the consumers.

Inside the silver suitcase, which replicates the one seen in the film, is a spinning top “totem,” movie art cards, a PASIV Device User Manual and three copies of Inception -  DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Copy.

As for the bonus features, there are only a few, but they sound appealing enough. Director Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio will host the Maximum Movie Mode, a unique Warner Bros. commentary that implements a more interactive behind-the-scenes look as you watch the film.

Included are “The Cobol Job” and “The Big Under,” two digital comics that serve as prologues to Inception and expand on Leonardo DiCaprio’s backstory leading up to the dream theft seen at the beginning of the film. There is also a documentary-style segment on dream research that should be similar to the viral clip released before the movie.

I definitely hope there is more than this in the behind-the-scenes department. Many fans will be supremely disappointed if there is no extensive footage of the creative process behind the creation of Inception. They released enough video before the film opened to suggest there is enough to fill up an entire 50GB BD disc. Nolan has graced fans with a healthy portion of behind-the-scenes features in previous home videos, so surely there is more to come.

One caveat: The source of this information is a British website, so this may all not exactly match the US release of Inception on Blu-ray and DVD.

Expect a more formal announcement on the home video release details soon, but this is the first explanation of what we can expect when one of the year’s best films hits shelves. No date has been announced, but rumors have started on a potential December release (in time for the holidays, of course).

  1. Oh, happy day!!! 3-Disc Briefcase Edition it is :D

  2. Two words… DO WANT. :)

    • Two other words… DON’T WANT.

      • Two letters: F U

  3. Hell yes this is what DVD’s and Blu Rays should be like. I hate getting ripped off with DVD’s like Sherlock Holmes. Nolan films almost always deliver on great special editions. TDK and Begins had great collectors editions with lots of special features and cool cases. This looks very cool and I’m excited.

  4. You know, I’ve never been a fan of bells and whistles when it comes to home video releases. In fact, I have NEVER watched a special feature in my life. However, I love this movie so much that I might consider getting the big box as opposed to just the standard single-DVD version.

  5. Lol once a week I still Spin a top and when it falls over I say “Phew Reality” at this point I do it just to mess with my GF lol.

    • lol… :-d

  6. I just hope, when the DVD and Blu-Ray was released, WB don’t “cheat” the fans to re-release the film (which they probably will, considering it’s Oscars potential)with additional minutes of new footages or extended scenes just to entice fans to watch it again…

  7. I was really hoping someone would have already said this so I wouldn’t feel the need to, but sadly, no one has yet…

Someone obviously came into your dreams and incepted you with the idea that the special edition would come in a silver briefcase.

I’m sorry, I just can never resist the obvious joke.

    • Actually, I did it to Warner Bros. when I thought of the briefcase release. It only took 2 days, thought it would take at least a week in real time (a month down below)

  8. I cant wait to get this on BR! Oh i also want shrek, iroN man,toy story, karate kid and…..IDK i need aNother lol!

  9. This is only a UK release. That isn’t mentioned in the article. The briefcase edition has only been announced for overseas production as of now.

    • Whoops, somehow I skipped over the Caveat. Anyway, yeah we shouldn’t get excited just yet for this set to hit the US.

      • I still think it will be the same design, with a few more features. Something tells me WB isn’t too far behind with an official US announcement.

  10. I want to buy this please. I will buy this.

  11. I’ll be needing that top…a lighter doesn’t work so well as a totem :P

  12. wow man, that’s cool, i wonder how much it will be if it comes to canada, this was teh best movie of teh year

  13. spelling errors my bad

  14. hey Mike, is the Briefcase edition strictly BR? they need to release it dual edtions like they did with the Blade Runner briefcase sets

    • Well it comes with the BR, DVD and Digital Copy. So, you could think of it as a DVD with a BR and Digital Copy

      • ahhh..well i’ll be getting THAT version then, im that big of a nerd, thanks man :)

  15. packaging souns cool, But they appear to be just teasing with the extras
Probably planning an Ultimate Edition down the road.

  16. I don’t own a BD player, what goodies can I expect in the DVD set apart from DVD

    B-)

  17. That’s an amazing set, hope it’s not too expensive. I hope they don’t stick too many exclusive features on blu ray though. I just want the spinning top!!

  18. Man, I know I’m going to buy this, I’m going to spin the top, it won’t fall and I’m going to freak the hell out.

    Thanks Nolan.

  19. Nolan looks like a blond Oliver Platt in this picture

  20. lmfao!! you are so right Johnny.

As for re-releasing inception with new footage, if you know Chris Nolan, he doesn’t have deleted scenes or extra footage. Everything he wants in a movie is in the movie, there are no extra scenes. the theatrical version is the directors cut.

  21. I’ll be fine with a 2-disc DVD and a top :) Though that’s unlikely to happen. Saving for this will end up with me missing it seeing that it’s a limited edition. lol

  22. blu ray is region those of us with a PS3 or BD player dont have to worry :D
only dvd folks still have to worry. lol

this is a plot from WB to get ppl to buy BD players now.

  23. best movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So gonna get this when it comes out!!

    • best movie ever huh..lol

      • its my best movie ever.thats my opinion.

  24. It depends on how much this “Limited Edition” will cost. If it’s like $50 I don’t think anyone would buy it since it’s too much. But like the DVD/BluRay Combo that’s usually $25 is fine since that’s what I’m buying ever since the Harry Potter movie came out with it.

Hopefully the “Limited Edition” isn’t too much to pay so I could buy it also, if it is, I won’t.

  25. I absolutely love this film.
Best film hands down for 2010
    Brilliant and original script.
    Christopher Nolan does it again.
All the actors done a brillian job too.
